eSports is the next big thing. Smart of ESPN to try to cash in.

Hate what they've become personally, but smart.

You remember when everyone was bitching about them showing poker? Oh wait, even video games are more of a sport than poker.

ESPN was by far the biggest contributor to the poker boom. Especially the way they edited it to make it seem like poker was always interesting and dramatic.

"The Mario Bros are some of the whitest dudes I ever seen, and ESPN gives them a show"

If it were legit fighting games and people talking shite I could get behind this. It's really only running in place of another 30 for 30 rerun anyway.

ESPN showed everything from tiddlywinks to Australian rules football before landing college football in 1984. Just keepin' with their roots, I'd say.

Or it's just filler programming at 1030 on a Sunday night.

These games have nearly 30 million players a day worldwide and the championships are watched by a sizable portion of the globe every year.

I don't blame ESPN for jumping on this bandwagon.

There is a shitload of money in video game competitions.

I, personally, don't watch or play this stuff, but it is no different than showing poker or any of the other multitudes of "sports" they show on ESPN.
