Rich Rod’s 3-3-5 at WV was a thing of beauty. If you do that with or at rating D-linemen, 215-235 lb linebackers that can fly, and safeties that can cover and play run support you have a defense designed to stop today’s offenses. However, if you run up against a Wisconsin style team or a team that can play power football, you need to have the horses in the front 6 to do so.

QB is a lot of responsibility in a full progression read offense. Not so much in a one-read RPO spread attack. Which explains why a lot of freshmen QBs are performing at a high level coming out of similar offenses in high school.

High school football - place kicker

Why would that be? The holder?

It's place kicker. You must have perfect mechanics. You can't rely on speed, strength, or size if you mess up a little bit. In all other positions you can make up for a mistake with superior speed or size or strength. You can't do that as PK. Also the mental aspect is the toughest. If your head isn't in the right place you can't make up for it with speed or size or strength.

All other positions allow you to cover your arse with physical attributes.

This is only true if you are substantially more physically gifted than your opponent. Which in the NFL is very rare. Obviously this is apparent in highschool sports but at the highest level the best athletes in the NFL are only so much better than the average athletes.

My son is going to be the varsity kicker as a freshman next year. He’s planning on being a top national recruit...but life always has its own plan.

He’s been kicking with no tee ahead of the summer camps, LSU next weekend, but here’s video of him from 55 right before he tossed it.

Corner was physically demanding, especially for a slow white boy like me. Saftey was easier. Neither were mentally tough
