But they did fall apart. 49ers would be in the Super Bowl if Kyle WIlliams hadn't made two huge mistakes, but he DID so we're going home.

Saints will be far better than the 49ers as long as Drew Brees is our QB and its not even close

I think overall the Saints are a better team if Spagnuolo can turn around the defense, but who knows what kind of moves the Niners make in the offseason. Hope they get some weapons on offense because our red zone offense is abysmal.

Gonna have to spend some picks on DBs. Rogers and Goldson played themselves out of Niners' price range, and Whitner will be gone after next season.

so I should get used to turning the ball over an inordinate number of times every time the teams play and still having a great shot to win at the end?

You're right, the 49ers should have capitalized on their defense forcing turnovers and put the game away early.

What happens if the 49ers offense is average in the red zone?

Haha, before this season I would have been all for it. However, I think Harbaugh sticks with him until Kaepernick is ready.

Fair, but in all honesty, a lot of the Niners problems in the RZ this year was due to Harbaugh scheming Smith's running ability out of the gameplan in the regular season. Kaepernick was no where near being a capable backup should Smith go down. I fully expect to see some designed QB draws next year which should result in some more unpredictability.

I actually think Alex might end up like a Rich Gannon/late bloomer type as some have said. Good luck next year.

I wouldn't go that far, but I'd be ecstatic if he was! I think Alex is at best an average NFL QB. I really want to see what he'd do with some offense weapons (Yeah yeah, I know about Gore, Davis & Crabtree).

Did he really do enough in the preseason to discredit everything Alex Smith did this season? Sometimes you have to look at a situation as an unbiased opposing fan would and realize you are just letting the emotions of Alex Smith's past blunders get in the way of how good he actually was this year. He and Harbaugh could be the perfect pair. Rmember Tom Brady and Belicheck made eachother what they are today, just like Brees and Payton.

Again, I want to see what Alex does with some weapons and an off season with the same Offensive Coordinator.

Yeah. I'm a diehard niner fan, and love that harbaugh is our guy. He coached a mediocre team into a very very good team. The niners are gonna be good for a while.

Back to the original post. Handshake was bad no doubt and team owner should speak to him to get him to take some acting lessons so he could at least fake it.

But, damn that was a tough loss. Replacement special teams guy coughs up the game - twice.

Sudden and crushing end to what could have been a Cinderella season.

I seriously doubt smith is harbaughs guy. It seems you have to have an above average qb to get to the sb these days, and I'm not sure smith will ever be that. In the past 5 years I can only thing of one qb who wasn't pretty good in the sb and that's Grossman.
