As they should. He had two years left, making $3.5 million a year. You can do the math there.

Rumors I've been hearing are that WSU wanted to give him $2 million, but they knew about all of these incidents for years and never did anything about it. They wanted him to sign an NDA to not come back at the school and tear the entire athletic department apart, so he forced their hand and ended up with a ridiculous amount in the settlement.

Hopefully this doesnt effect their ability to hire a quality coach

I don't think it will. It will be interesting to see how Isaac Brown does this year. I think that's the best-case scenario for the guys still on the team.

They should be able to get a guy for $1.5-$2 Million a year.

The crazy thing is, some school almost surely takes a chance on Marshall within the next year or two. There is a good chance Marshall settling and resigning with the school is a net gain financially for him in the long run.

ETA: Unless my understanding of the settlement is wrong and whatever team might hire him would have to pay the balance owed by WSU?

Allegedly they're looking at Thad Matta.

Some school definitely will take a chance on him at some point. It might take 2-3 years for the incidents to drop off a little, but continuing to receive money from WSU (The $7.75M is spread out over 6 years) will probably make him a little easier to bring in. Just have to deal with the backlash from these incidents if you hire him.

Seth Davis is the only person (that I've seen) that's reported this, and I think that was if they wanted to get someone in before the season started. Since they decided to just promote Isaac Brown to interim, I'd be surprised if Matta ends up as the head coach at WSU.
