Spurrier's last team at UF comes to mind
Best 2 loss team ever
-9 wins by 3+ TDs
-Lost at AU by 3
-lost to UT by 2 when Stephens went crazy
-Grossman should've won the Heisman. Best QB in the country.
-Even Bock Berlin has nice stats in garbage time
-Gaffney, Caldwell, Jacobs at WR = money
-Shepard and Ratliff at CB, Alex Brown and Ian Scott on the line, etc.

good reason to not have preseason polls
Why's that?
Even if the polls started in October or whenever you want, they still woulda been behind USC and OU, no doubt.

I'm not really at all sure why 2001 UF has been mentioned on here and not the 2001 Tenn team that physically brutalized them in the swamp.
That team played a great schedule, one loss in the regular season on a miracle drive at the end(Hobnail Boot Game) and were penciled in the NC game until they blew a lead to LSU in the SEC title game thanks to John Chavis.
They then annihilated a good Michigan team 45-17 in their bowl game.
Had Outland Winner John Henderson AND Haynesworth as DTs. Had Jason Witten at TE. Gibil Wilson at safety. Donte Stallworth and Kelley Washington at WRs. Stephens should have won the Doak Walker that year too.
Badass team.

+1
Also, Oregon in 2007 with a healthy Dennis Dixon likely plays Ohio State for a NC and wins.

lol..........I mentioned Oregon. With a healthy Dixon they stomp OSU worse than LSU did. I think they would have scored on every possesion!

Anyone of those teams could have been ranked #1 all year. If Auburn would have been ranked #1 they would have been in the game.
Like H-Town said, Auburn could have started #119 or #3 and they still would have finished exactly where they did-#3. I think that even if they had started #1, USC and/or OU would have jumped them because the other 2 just looked more impressive that year, quite frankly. And lsumatt would have to back me up on this, but because of their shite OOC schedule, I think if Auburn had finished #2 in the polls, they still would have finished #3 in the BCS due to the computers. And as good as they were, I'm of the opinion that USC would have skull-fricked them anyway. That '04 SC team was one of the best 4-5 of all-time imho.
LSU '06 was probably the best team at the end of the year. If they had let Jamarcus throw it the whole game like he did in the 2nd half of the 4th quarter, we would have won by 3+ touchdowns. That game was on Miles and Jimbo 100%. But I thought they came out at Florida ready to play. I think Les did a very good job of getting them ready, the players just shite the bed. I would put none of that on coaching, and all on the players. That said, lose 2 games in '06 and you forfeit your right to play for the title. Even though we might been the best team at the end of the year, we didn't deserve to play for it. No 2-loss team should be in this discussion imho. Just undefeateds or 1-loss teams the same year that another 1-loss team won it. LSU '06 has no argument over Florida '06. We might have beat them in the SECCG, but the fact is, we didn't deserve to play them again.

i used to love jamarcus scrambling ability... it seemed like everyone would always drop back in coverage and he could take off for 20 yards at any time

2002 Miami, 1998 K-State, 2000 Washington or Miami deserved a shot over FSU.
