Yeah, that's only part of the story. leader got impeded and had to stop and do a 30 foot backtrack about 5 minutes before the end. He was following a couple of police motorcycles and one pealed off at the last minute and he followed the one that pealed off. There's video of it. He corrected quickly, but it only took one step!

The leader got impeded by some idiot women waving Kenyan flags and trying to record him on a phone..

Course officials waved the women to the right to get off the course, and the runner and escort vehicles followed their hand motions the wrong way

Whole thing was 100% the fault of two idiotic women trying to make an Instagram video

That was the greatest finish since Tubby Tuke won the Boston Marathon.

Wow.
The winner actually knew where he was and what he needed to win. And he finished the job.
In agreement that the other runner was just doing the usual, which wasn't enough this time.

I disagree. Nathan Martin took advantage of the situation and ran as hard and fast as he could to win the race. The other guy just didn't respond appropriately. I get he might have been exhausted, but he never really matched the challenge of Nathan Martin.

It's like any other athletic competition. You need to take advantage of the situation and you need to meet the challenge. The other dude clearly was in it till the end and more effort might have made the difference.

That fits. You could substitute "society's condition" for "whole thing" and basically be right.

Sorry I didnt mean to discount the effort of the winner

The leader was checking over his shoulder LONG before the wrong-way issue. He was definitely struggling...

Just sucks that the winner's finish has this cloud over it because of a couple of idiots
