My bad, you're right. I must have them confused with somebody else.

Still shameful to see a for-profit institution without a campus (only off-campus locations) in DI. Or in the NCAA at all, really.

Hold the f on, are people bitching about a school investing in their athletics for the general purpose of the university?

Thats just.... pure ludicrous.

I don't get why being a for-profit school is such a bad thing...

I don't think GCU is one of those types of schools you are thinking of.

GCU has a physical campus.

All 3 of these schools used to be Independents. The WAC snatched them up to save the conference after mass defections. Rio Grande Valley used to be UT-Pan American.

Yeah Rio Grande Valley is a new UT school that's the result of the merger between UT-Pan American and UT-Brownsville (non-DI). UTRGV inherits UT-Pan American's AD.

That first GCU accreditation link suggests that it has no campus locations, just off-campus ones.

Because it directly flies in the face against everything a university stands for.

What is that exactly? Providing a crappy education while giving academic dueches and cry babies a place to whine and be accepted and/or a paycheck?

Grand Canyon University is a proprietary institution that was founded in 1949. It has a campus size of 100 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Grand Canyon University's ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities (West), Tier 2. Its tuition and fees are $17,050 (2014-15).
LINK

GCU is a Tier2 regional university and that is the same as the SWAC schools and other smaller public schools. Atleast GCU is not an tax $$$ wasteland like the SWAC schools.

hey don't knock GCU. I will begin working on my PHD Program from them in August. It is a convenient school for us military peeps to use. Yes, its not a big name school like OU where I got my Bachelor's and Master's from but if it can help me make more $ then I am in!

I have family members that work for one, asswipe. Come over here and tell these students, many of them folks that just performed military service, that they are prey.

They are prey. A lot of these for-profits prey on vets. Vets could get into a tech school or a traditional university (many of which have online components now) and come out with a much more respected degree.

Please note, I'm not specially talking about Grand Canyon when I say this.

These for-profit schools are the scum of the earth, preying on the most vulnerable.

I got a Master's degree from there. Am I "the most vulnerable"? It offers most of its degrees online which is great for working folks.
I really don't care that they are using my money to promote the schools via athletics. I gave them money to take classes and get a degree; why should I care what they do with it?

I wasn't knocking GCU. I was knocking tax payer supported academic wastelands (i.e. HBCUs). I currently attend a for profit med school.
