Golf Tourney: What does the number above the trophy on TV mean?

Watching the tourney and noticed the trophy looking thing either green or red with a number above it. Its located next to the players name. Checked the FedEx rankings and they didnt correlate

Green means they have improved their place in FedEx Cup this tourney, red means they've moved down in the rankings.

I always thought it should be their spot in the tournament. I'm sure FedEx has had their say in it though

Actually, it means they currently qualify for the playoffs at the end of the year. Red means the player is outside looking in.
