I posted this NOT because it was from a RICE dad but because I thought it spoke to anyone that had played sports and made all the effort and sacrifices only to fall short or for a fan that rooted with all their heart only to see your team that you love so much lose.
So you're saying that those who root with all their heart and soul for a baseball team which loses should handle it in the manner that Mr. St. Clair handled it?
Which is to -
whine about the umpires' strike zone
minimize the significance of the game
point out all of the little things that made a loss "not his son's fault"
go on to explain how his son will soon be playing professionally anyway
compliment his son on poor sportsmanship
make excuses about why the program should not even be in the CWS
emotionally melt down like a pussy over a loss
Yeah, the response should have been predictable.
When LSU lost (and I live in NC so I took a ton of shite) I chalked it up to the better team winning and felt thankful that our team made us proud after some rough going midseason.

this coming from the same fans that bitched and moaned about a hidden ball trick and accused the umpires of CHEATING.
Isn't St. Clair's dad doing the same thing?
And it's not like we didn't have the right to be upset about the hidden ball trick when LeMahieu was clearly safe.

he never in any way disprespect lsu or any of the team in any way
he could have done without the "my son told Mainieri to sit down, just as I would have done."
like his son was out there having to both umpire and pitch because the umps were primodonnas or something.
dude really just needs to get over it. I can post a MILLION pieces of literature on loss and heartbreak that were more "eloquent" than that.
Honestly owlfan..

If baseball was all you had, you'd probably be that way too.

This is quoted for truth. This is like reading some of the crap in a fiction workshop class.

I just wasted like 10 minutes of my life reading that shite...
So basically St. Clair was trying to take responsibility for getting rocked...but his dad was crying like a bitch telling him it wasn't his fault and that it was everyone else's
How happy am I that we beat Rice now? Between Zornes and this guy they HAVE to have the biggest douchebags in the country
quote:
In this conversation my son was still taking responsibility, another reflection of the exact attitude that allows him to stand on that mound at such times when the sport feels larger than life (it isn’t). He spoke mainly about fastballs selected too often, bounding balls that found holes, standing over his wounded catcher pleading, “pick up the ball, tag him again.” I replied that he threw so many fastballs up because that is what he was given, as breaking balls, the corners and the knees had been taken away. I replied that this freshly rained-on mid-western infield had dried into concrete. A batter was hit by a ball he was attempting to swing at. Yes, it ran inside, your fastball can do that, it could have gone either way…a little thing.

ou think that journal on philosophical babble after losing a CWS game, which he so subtly blames on officiating and ego's, is something that would be appreciated.
everyone knows how hard loss is, whether in REAL life or sport. Everyone has experienced it in some capacity.
I feel for Cole, and the entire team. Just like I now feel for the Tigers. But I dont need to read a bunch of Machiavelli from St. Clairs overheated poppa to understand that it happens everywhere. I knew right when the game was over what the feeling was the was in Cole's stomach.
His dad just seems like a bitch. Thats all.

it's frickin' baseball game. Take all that passion and go cure cancer or world hunger or something. We lost last night to N.C., it hurt, it sucks, but ... amazingly the sun came up this morning. My 16 y.o. got cut as a junior by some dickhead high school baseball coach ... talk about hurtful but he's gotten over it and so have I. When sports stops being fun and starts being an obsession it's time to take a time out and re-evaluate.

Dude needs to get a life and stop living through his son. I see lots of these same sort of dad's out at the Ascnsion little league games.
