Absurd when you look back. One of the reasons people believe Duncan turned out so good is dunking was outlawed in high school. He had to work on his post game early on.

Depends on your point of view. It literally takes no skills at all to dunk. Just height and hops or the combo of both. With the dunk being illegal players, mostly big men were forced to develop real basketball skills.

rules are rules.

Its only dumb because we aren't used to it.

shite dribbling is only a thing because we say it is. It just makes the game harder. Not allowing dunking does the same thing.

In the 1973 title game Bill Walton went 21 of 22 from the floor without a dunk.

I actually rewatched part of that game recently. He had at least 1 basket waved off for "dunking". It was really lame because he didnt even really dunk. He just had his hands over the cylinder or something.

It was basically fear of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar type players who were so dominant around the rim with the high percentage shot.

I still don't know how basketball went so long without a shot clock though.

Nonsense. Even if dunking isn't allowed players go strong to the hoop , but instead they simply make strong layups . Dunk or layups(both 2 points) & have nothing to do with big men developing skills.

Dunking has nothing to do with the loss of skill at the Center /Big position

A lot of players growing are enamored of perimeter players & like playing facing the basket. You got 7' Footers like Notwitzki shooting 3 pointers (he's not the only one as many 'big men' today like playing facing the basket).

Playing with your back to the basket & grinding it out isn't as sexy as shooting 3's or facing up & taking people off the dribble.
