He's looked like an idiot for years.

This time it's morally reprehensible in addition to being stupid.

you had school administrators refusing to go to the police and covering up the crimes.

n fact i have always rooted against them

Then you should be all for the DP for PSU football from the NCAA

Punish the individuals who were involved in the cover up.

Don't punish those who weren't involved.

Pretty simple.

that being said none of you pricks really have any credibility in the matter, especially when you think the whole school should burn because it's leadership was so fricking crooked.

Agreed. It's a stupid, intellectually lazy argument.

good.

per the lawsuits comment, i don't see how that's that far off from what i said excluding the lack of fondness or sentimentality towards psu that you have.

I'm not saying shut down the university, but innocent people will suffer collateral damage, thats the way it goes. It just makes the acts of criminals that much more selfish

And you try to MINIMIZE collateral damage. Some on this thread seem to be advocating a course of action that has no regard for that concept.

That doesn't make it right. Punish those who deserve it. It seems really simple to me.

Punish those individuals. Not people who had nothing to do with it.

yep DP the football program. Keep the punishment where it belongs.

The school is a great research institution and will be fine.

i do not argue the wrong their administration did. i'll admit i was slow to blaming joe pa but the evidence is damning and he's gonna have that on his legacy forever. i don't think it completely outweighs all the good he has done in state college but i don't expect anyone outside the area to understand that really either and that isn't a flame which leads me to

no. i hate PSU football but i don't wish this on even UF or GT. this is awful, especially for a school that has as much pride as PSU. it was essentially the semester from hell from what i heard for students who had no part in the atrocities. while i hate their annoying arse fans and their football team i would never hope for the absolution of PSU or it's football program. if anyone needs football to help forget what their school's leaders have just done it is the PSU fans

Yea but there are people and the institution. It's really difficult to separate the two.

you want the school to collapse. that's a little off from me saying they have an uphill battle fighting these lawsuits. PSU has enough budget issues as is, this will have a resounding effect for decades monetarily as it will emotionally

I know what good he did. I was a lifeguard in Avalon NJ, 50th street beach. He ran by my stand every morning in June. talked with him many many times...really nice guy.

Doesn't excuse covering up for a pedo for decades.

no student had part. The FB program did.

Football is what led to the atrocities occurring and being serially covered up for decades.

EXACTLY

Would this have occurred if he was the Basketball coach or an accounting professor?

Highly unlikely.

ok, so because this happened we should punish current coaches, players, students and fans? did you miss the example earlier where if a husband kills in the name of his family you don't arrest the husband AND his family?

i'm not arguing for the sake of arguing and i don't argue your intelligence but why should everyone be punished?

Basically said that covering up this little child rape scandal really shouldnt outweigh the 50 years of good that Paterno did for Penn State

I think lack of institutional control is one helluva ironic term in this case. If anything, PSU had impeccable control of the entire fricking city. Granted, that control was used to cover up atrocities, but to think that they didn't have control is comical.

i should have expounded., He told me about the charities he worked with, the people he helped find homes and jobs, his connection with former players long after the careers with Penn State were over, etc.

quote:

ok, so because this happened we should punish current coaches, players, students and fans?

I'm sorry. But the FB program covered this up for decades. There are multiple confirmed counts of crimes against kids that were covered up TO PROTECT THE FB PROGRAM, for decades.

Current players should be given a chance to transfer by the NCAA. They're good enough to play at PSU, somebody will give them a shot.

quote:

did you miss the example earlier where if a husband kills in the name of his family you don't arrest the husband AND his family?

Lulz. That example is bullshite.

FIFY:
If a man kills someone else, and his family helps cover up the crime...THEY ALL GO TO JAIL.
