It’s really fun to see the friendship between Sainz and Norris. Such a competitive environment yet they see past it.

We’ll see if Carlos achieves what Coulthard did in F1. DC was a pretty good driver.

Missed out the podium ceremony but I am pumped for Max. Hopefully this is the turning of the tide.

Maybe it’ll happen with the caps they’re putting in place but it’s historically always been a 3 tier setup.

The fluidity between the tiers is what should remain. Going between F1.5 and F1 should be possible any year.
Regardless of legality on what Racing Point did with copying Merc last year, that sort of thing is what makes F1 what it is.
Billionaire bought them and just said, copy them. Win races. And they did borderline that.
The rear wing flexibility going on right now is great. It will have Merc mad, RBR obtuse on the rule, Ferrari watching hoping the test doesn't change, and everyone else trying to duplicate. Until Merc shows up in Baku with a flexiwing and then FIA steps in to stop an arms race.

Haven’t historically been literal B teams though

I will say that I don't like teams like RBR having a 2nd team that will never truly compete for a title.
It feels different when a team doesn't have a budget to compete and a team just isn't set up to compete.

Right in different eras some teams won’t be able to comepete but there should be upward mobility over time if you bring in the right people and innovate.
It shouldn’t be a situation where Williams is now where they feel like they either need to be someones b team or go out of business

It's a tough answer right.
Become a spec series or become all out balls to the walls development series.
Indy, NASCAR, and DTM aren't bringing innovative technology. They don't hold that same history of race tech making it into your Camry in 5-10 years.
All out no spending and opening the formula sounds great, but anyone not winning will leave. No way they can field 20+ cars.

Yeah it’s tough, at the very least bringing everyone closer together will make for better races and championship hunts.
If 3 years from now Merc, RB, Ferrari, and McLaren all think they can compete for wins at more tracks than not that’s a big win. And if even bottom tier teams can nick points at the same time you’ve got a much better series IMO

How do you mean? Red Bull for the longest time were a tier 2 team.

And gasly just won a race with torro Rosso. The small can teams can win.
F1 seems really cyclical. They'll adjust the rules and the first team to figure it out wins. Then they'll adjust the rules and someone else will win.

I see the lower tier teams as a scouting ground for the top 3 or 4 teams. I do think there’s enough parity if you look across years with Ferrari, RB, Merc and Mcclaren competing for championships. True parity just isn’t possible due to the economics of the sport.

Williams put Bottas on the podium, granted, it was the Merc engine that helped. But still, Williams was a potential contender not long ago. Seb won with Toro Rosso. Even Maldonado won with Lotus (now Alpine). The chance is still there, but Toto built a damn juggernaut with Merc that kills the rest of the parity.
Mclaren definitely has the potential to beat Mercedes despite using a Merc engine. I really hope the revival of McLaren-Mercedes really happens because that is what brought me into F1.
If Merc was gone everyone would be mad at Red Bull because Max was winning everything.

At different stages of the sport, it’s felt like the dominant teams will endure forever. Williams in the 90s with Damon Hill looked unbeatable until Benetton came along. Ferrari after that, and then Renault and then Red Bull and Mercedes. So I do think Toto’s empire will eventually end and Horner’s also. I could see a Mclaren and Ferrari comeback. Putting severe caps on everyone isn’t the answer IMO.

I’m new to F1 having only watched last season’s races and this one. I’ve discussed the history with my 19 year old son who has been watching for 3+ years now and who rewatches highlights of old races. It definitely seems cyclical in some respects.
What I find frustrating is that the lower teams have no chance. I started to rewatch DTS and Haas was actually scoring some points in 2018. My son said they’ve mailed it in for 2021 and are focusing on 22, if that is accurate.
