What’s the best place/way to purchase tickets for Austin? Official F1 website?

I saved some notes from last years thread and people said be there early and that practice rounds were worth it and maybe better than race and to pay for seats in 12-15 and dole out the Money for access to member tents? Also something about a spot between 11 and 12 where you can get close to fence.
I have family that lives there so looking at leaving BR Thursday after work, maybe do Friday Saturday at the track head back Sunday? Or catch race and head back Monday?
Anyway, the real question is best play to purchase tickets and any other advise. Thanks guys

I like Russell a lot and whether this apology was pushed by Mercedes or not I respect that he made this statement.

valtteribottas:

Yeah, not sure if it was forced or what. If so Toto is really holding him hostage for that seat.

Let's talk Bottas. Good practice sessions, but then he didn't do well in qualifying. Then during the race, he did frickall until Russell knocked him out. He has no business being so far back that he's having to defend against a Williams when you consider how much better his car is than the Williams.

Meanwhile, Hamilton restarts at P7 or P8? Then manages to power through the grid like they were standing still (except Norris, who if not for tires going, might have put up a better fight than he already had).

Yeah yeah yeah, wet track, but still. It shows how good Hamilton is and how average Bottas is when they both have to actually race. You can't use the argument that the Merc is bad in dirty air because Hamilton can make up ground with ease.

Used the official website, not sure you will find much better deals unless last minute because people can't use them.

When I do a weekend again I will only have grandstand seats for Sunday. Do GA and spot around the track a few different places for fri/sat.

Traffic leaving on Sunday is a little bad, but you can make it back to BR in the early AM if you leave directly after the race. You would be crazy to go that distance and not stay for Sunday.

Yes, plan to get their early to see all the feeder series and hype. And to walk around and see the event.

Bottas has always been shite in the wet, but his inability to get to the next level will be his legacy.

Merc doesn't need him to win though, they just need him to score in the Top 3 more times than not. They want the payday of constructor title.

This thing with George Russell has to make Toto fear partnering GR with HAM next year. George letting his temper/ego run like that in a situation is not a selling point. You end up with a HAM/ROS situation which was detrimental to the team, despite being great for the fans.

If McLaren keeps moving up the ladder I'd like to see Norris and Russell in the McLarens. I'm starting to feel like Ricciardo is losing a step. I know that Hamilton had DRS but he didn't put up any fight which in turn would have helped to defend Norris' position. It's also clear that Norris at this stage is a good bit quicker than Ricciardo.

Regardless if his outburst was a good look or not, guaranteed Mercedes is happy to see this fire. Guys who become world champions tend to behave on track like the world revolves around them and that they own any part of the track they happen to be on, and any clash they have with another driver is always the other guy's fault. Senna, Schumacher, Vettel are typical examples. Good guys like Coulthard, Barrichello, and Webber had the talent to win races but not the entitled narcissistic ego required to take a championship. There are exceptions like Damon Hill, but he had the best car. As long as he qualified in front he could dominate a race, but when he had to fight his way to the front, he didn't show the killer instinct of other champions.

The guy who has shocked me somewhat is Max. Aside from his speed, his spicy personality and on-track behavior in the early years screamed "future world champion" to me. But he has matured so much in the last couple of years! When his race is ruined by team mistakes or strategy failures, he doesn't whine like Hamilton or Alonso. His personality seems to have lost that ego-driven fire, so when he finally wins the WDC it seems like I'm going to have to think of him as a "good guy" world champion.

If Norris keeps this up, he is going to be able to demand a lot of money from whatever team wants him the most. It's been fun seeing him get better.

I have to disagree with this. Hamilton is still on top of his game, but he is getting older and any top team is always looking for the next young guy who can be their future world champion. If they think Russell is that guy, they won't hesitate to lock him down.

Edit: They'll probably go after Max first of course.

If Merc decides to keep the same lineup for next year where is George going to go? Aston maybe? Renault may forgo Gasly, but that doesn't seem likely.

Mclaren, Ferrari, RB are probably set with who they have.

I wonder how this changes Russell's powerpoint presentation to Toto for next year? "I cost you $20 million this past year when I wasn't even on your team and your budget as already halved, but if you give me a seat in the Merc, my ROI will be five times that." :insertbarchart:

Toto fricking with GR by saying he is closer to a Renault Clio cup car than the Merc seat makes me believe that Toto has told him that the Merc seat is his next year.

Made another comment along the lines of GR trying to get into that seat faster than intended.

Yeah Mercedes is being critical of the driver who is not currently on their team because that's the correct thing to do. But I can't imagine Mercedes hanging on to Bottas next year, and Russell still has to be a prime candidate to replace him. Red Bull may have been too hasty demoting Gasly and Albon, but I think Mercedes has been way too patient with Bottas. His job is to finish P2 in the championship behind Hamilton because the car has been that dominant. Bottas is not their future guy.

Agreed that GR is the future and they know that. I think HAM isn't worth the money they are paying him at this point, but that would be a bold move to drop him. Next year might be an even larger price.

Bottas has done almost everything Merc has needed though. Usually scores maximum points, doesn't destroy the car, keeps team peace, is usually in position to allow for optimum strategies. Merc doesn't care if BOT never wins a championship as long as they keep winning constructors championships.

I started watching F1 as a kid in the 1970s. Max is clearly my favorite driver since Senna. That kid has guts, skill, desire, and a perspective far more mature than his years should allow. Thankfully, it appears that he may finally have a car that can compete with Mercedes. Red Bull better hope so because if they let him down again, someone is going to break the bank to sign him.

Off topic but I hope we see a purging of washed up drivers next season. Dump Seb, Kimi, and Alonso. I also hope Mercedes has to replace two drivers next season, one voluntarily and one involuntarily. I know it it not likely but I have seen Lewis win so many times that much of the fun was taken out of F1 for nearly a decade. You have your 7 championships, now go home. Bottas, however, needs a huge turnaround to keep his seat in 2022. Seems like the harder he tries, the worse things get.
