What’s the rule? I looked back but might have missed it if it was posted.
I really wish they had red flagged it and let them punch it out for 4 laps. Would have been awesome.

A mixed bag. Toto knew the timing worked for him. Unlapping cars meant they finished under yellow. Leaving them unlapped meant Max couldn't catch Lewis.
This in between was the only thing that allowed the green finish and Max to catch up.

Which rule, the unlapping?
It would have to be, because if it is about Max overtaking just before the safety car left the track, that happened because Hamilton almost came to a complete stop on the track

Damon Hill saying Red Bull wrong for pressuring Masi. As if Toto doesn't do the same.

48.12 If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW OVERTAKE" has been sent to all Competitors via the official messaging system, any cars that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars on the lead lap and the safety car
I'll try to grab a screenshot of the whole rule.

Where was the CAS for the Saints after that Rams game?
I just drew this parallel as well.

quote:Maybe so, but you cannot eliminate "what ifs". There are too many here to unpack. It's like when the Saints were fricked by a bad call that kept them out of the Super Bowl. What if that had actually been called correctly? You can't say that New Orleans would have scored with any degree of certainty.
That is the problem. By the books Merc appear to have legitimate grounds. The rules were not followed.
Same applies here. You can't say what would have happened because it didn't happen.

Think abt a sport overturning a call bc the call put the best two drivers in a one lap sprint for a title... as opposed to the alternative call of handing one the title hiding behind a rule book knowing his strategy would not pay off...

Ok so the unlapping… what’s done is done, the only way to fairly adjust at this point is to go back, reset the track, same tires, fuel loads, etc… which they can’t.
In this case, max didn’t break protocol, their own people did. Can’t penalize max for that.

I don't think they will overturn it.
If they do, it is a count back to positions before the yellow flag though. That has been done before.

Just when I didn't think I could hate Merc more.

That is the hitch though. There are multiple ways to get a legal green flag finish, and Masi chose some version that only benefitted one driver.
I think it was Sainz who had no chance at the end because he wasn't allowed to unlap and instead had to defend instead of attack.

Going to CAS over this is beyond petty and unsportsmanlike to take away from Max's moment.

Toto begged for that VSC to not go full SC.

Max did nothing wrong, Lewis did nothing wrong, shite's fricked up.
Fire Masi, get some better marshals, see you in 2022.

Toto and Merc are like the Ferrari of old with constant legal wrangling versus settling it on the track.

Yep. Can’t penalize max for it and can’t assume Hamilton would’ve won anyway.
Having said all that, allowing the unlapping is so fishy. You’d have to be a complete hack not to admit that Massi wanted RB to win.

Is there a major difference in prize money winning vs second place?
