I don't think they will overturn it.
They shouldn’t. It’s done. I’m not a Max or Lewis homer and really enjoyed the battle this season. Tough break for Lewis because I think they made all the right calls to come back and win the title, but fricked up things happen on race day.
But I hope F1 learns to do better. Of the three options (end of safety car, safety car until the last second with one lap, or red flag and let everyone regroup but an equal opportunity for tires) I think the red flag with more laps was a better option. Maybe they’ll learn, surely they won’t.

Drivers championship doesn't pay anything.
Could argue there would be millions in loses for sponsorships though. And in the end the sport of a huge business.

The big difference is in sponsorship and endorsement money.

Having said all that, allowing the unlapping is so fishy. You’d have to be a complete hack not to admit that Massi wanted RB to win.
I don’t think it’s fish in general. Should have happened immediately when the SC happened. Waiting til the end is what was questionable. But at that point, there weren’t enough laps left.
FIA should change rules to declare a race cannot end under yellow and there has to be at least 1 hot lap, that would correct this situation.

Guess im a hack. He had a chance to punish hamilton on the first lap and didnt do anything.
I think he wanted them to actually race vs finishing under caution. Finishing under caution is stupid.
Hamilton had multiple chances to pit and vet new tires. He was even asking his team why they didn't. They really screwed themselves.
Im with the others abd even said it first during the race. They should have red flagged it. NASCAR actually had a good rule that the race wouldnt finish under caution. Green white checker. F1 would have to allow teams a chance to add fuel or waive their 1l requirement or whatever that rule is though.

Cant see Lewis losing sponsorship opportunities, can never tell for sure. The order should be, FIA is instructed to tell Masi to call Toto and say sorry I told you it is motor racing, but you still didnt win. See you in 2022.

The teams are paid for the championship, not the drivers

Can't do that for fuel reasons.

I like the GWC, but it seems harder to do in Formula 1 with how precise they load fuel.

What sucks is even down to the nut turners or truck drivers get a win and championship bonus.
Clark Griswold level shite for those lower paid members who bank on that Christmas bonus.

Back to something Masi said, clearing the incident. Everyone knew this race would need the best marshalling and clearing of the season. I would have hoped they could clear the incident quicker. You could see the marshalls fumbling around when Gio retired, then when Latifi crashed, they were fumbling around there too. Its concerning when the person holding a fire extinguisher cant figure out how to pull the pin. At one point it was like they didnt know which way to go to enter the track. Im sure they had to hire temps to bring in for big race.
This is something F1 has had an issue with for years. I assume they rely on the tracks for most of the track safety personnel, that's the norm, and frankly most of them are not very good. Certainly not fast and efficient, and it showed once again today.
There was no reason removing that car should have taken that long and the clown with the extinguisher didn't need to empty half the bottle for a small brake fire. Ended up creating a bigger cleanup with all the retardant covering half the width of the track.
To note, sometimes it is the sanctioning body's race director that causes slow cleanups as well. Road America has some of the best, and fastest, safety crews in the business yet you would never know it when Nascar is there as they hold them back until Nascar decides to release them. Generally after the field is picked up by the pace car.

Ya, hamilton makes like 5x as much as any other driver. He isnt losing anything over not winning. He is the face of f1 right now. Max is 2nd even after winning this championship.

You could, just suspend the minimum fuel left rule in that instance. Or put a cap that additional laps cannot exceed 2 or with under 5 laps left and a wreck, red flag is go to… lots of alternatives to what we just witnessed

Do any of the other teams have a case here? As in, did they get screwed by not being allowed to unlap themselves while the 5 cars between Lewis and Max were allowed to do so? Could they join Mercedes in their CAS case against the FIA?

I believe it was Sainz who said something towards it. Lando might have as well.
