Watched/listened to FP1 earlier this morning...
It was fairly normal...no spins/crashes or anything.
The one thing that stood out is that most teams did not run on any soft tires which is odd because they have to use them for the sprint.
It could be that they are using this practice for the race and FP2 tomorrow for the sprint.

I'm honestly amazed nobody got spun out in Q1, holy shite that was some Baton Rouge on gameday levels of traffic

Traffic everywhere. Close call with Leclerc and Mazespin in the pit lane.

Like two years ago everyone will get a warning and the FIA will do nothing

I'm really trying to give these sprint weekends a chance but I hate them.
I hate that quali is now when I'm at work, heck I think quali is on while a lot of Europe is at work as well.
I hate that quali seems less important. Have a shite day? No worries you can make it up tomorrow. Have a good day? Pucker your arse because it can get screwed up tomorrow.
You get a small preview of how the race may look and kind of dulls down the excitement of it all.
This is gimmicky.

It's just so unsatisfying watching this quali session knowing it doesn't mean much.
Red Bull seem to be babying that engine when it isn't needed.

I agree it is gimmicky and don't really like it, and it really has the potential to screw somebody over with being crashed ala Perez at Silverstone.

And here's an example of what I mean.
Oh Bottas is on pole? Who cares, he'll probably be given team orders to let Lewis right on by and try to hold off Max. I'd hope he'd sack up and race hard but I doubt it.

Sucks because that was a really great qualifying session. Bottas gets to lead the sprint, but doesn't get the pole, I guess. Who knows.
Surprised Max isn't taking his engine penalty now.

Bottas will start the race from last, or close to last.
The extra point for the sprint race is inconsequential to his world championship place. Like when Perez was brought in to get fastest lap at Silverstone.

Lewis talking to Massa...
Every point counts, we have lost a championship by 1 point...you know how that goes.

BS that Bottas can use his new engine to deny Max points tomorrow, but then have to start last on Sunday.
He should have to start last tomorrow.
He should have to start last tomorrow.

That's an interesting point, should the penalty be enforced on the sprint race? He would surely make up some ground but probably wouldn't get too far back up in the grid, so he would still be at somewhat of a disadvantage for taking the penalty.

Also, Max will probably drag race and beat the Mercs off the line and jump right into first, so it could be moot. He's done it a few times this season, including the Silverstone sprint.

By rules tbe sprint race is just another practice session. Penalties are adjusted once the grid is set.

It's possible, but that Honda looked like it was turned way down on power.

has a bottas contract been announced yet?

Bottas has agreed to drive for Alfa next year, what better way to endear yourself to the Italians than to give James a big frick you over the radio in Monza?

It is either a 2 or 3 year deal, Valterri said something about knowing where he would drive for the next 3 years.
