It will probably come down to if the person continued to stat slow in order to make a gap.

That is what the teams/drivers were warned not to do.

Looks like everyone else was cleared as well.

Race Director said they all broke the rules, but too many people involved to blame anyone.

Everytime I think they can't get any more idiotic with rulings.

So if the car has any problems requiring a repair or replacement of a part, his race is already over.

Hopefully they can repair the talent he damaged.

Lando has really shown his quali speed several times this year. Can't wait for them to put it together next year. Considering this years car is kind of duct taped together I think it is a great sign.

That's exactly what I said yesterday on the interstate. "They can't pull us all over".

Apparently you just don't want to be the last guy in line.

If you have the F1 app on your phone, you may want to change your password. Its apparently been hacked.

Red Bull pulling away from the pack more and more ...

It’s only going to happen more as the season finishes as Red Bull is the only one of the top teams still upgrading their car I believe.

Is this because they're in title contention, or because the design work will carry over to 2022?

Merc said that despite what Toto said they are still bringing upgrades.

Merc hasn't said what their tokens were spent on so it will probably be a final engine upgrade before the freeze.

RBR are focusing on this year still and Merc (and many others) seem to be looking towards the next formula.

Some things will probably carry over, but the new cars will be much much different.

Does Mercedes have to stop engine development, when they introduce that engine upgrade?

Ergo, they wouldn't release it until the end of the season? To maximize development time?

Makes the most sense to me. I don't know how all of those things work though.

Listening to the experts they don't see anything that Merc has spent tokens on.

Yes. Engine development has to stop at the end of the year. Not sure what kind of gains can be realized next year and stay within the freeze.

That's what doesn't make any sense to me. The only reason Seb impeded Alonso was because he was the last one in line. He was last in line because he slowed well before T9 and most of the drivers passed him because of him trying to follow the new directive. They all then slowed where they were told not to and caused a huge traffic jam.

Ultimately Seb's engineer was to blame, he never gave any indication that Alonso was approaching but the whole situation should have resulted in more than one driver being penalized.

Especially with Masi's directive. He was explicit to not slow there. Seb was the only one who actually held someone up on a fast lap, so I guess he caught the blame. Everyone broke an explicit directive though, think something should have come of it.

Seb's engineer trying to give him all the info and a blip of "Alonso 2 seconds" was pretty much no warning at all. Alonso was there by the time the radio transmission was over.

This is the head to head in qualifying so far this year. (Provided I didn't screw something up)

Russell 9-0 Latifi
Gasly 9-0 Tsunoda
Mick 8-1* Mazepin (Mick missed qualifying at Monaco due to FP3 crash)
Max 8-1 Perez
Gio 7-2 Kimi
Hamilton 6-3 Bottas
Leclerc 6-3 Sainz
Lando 6-3 Daniel
Seb 5-4 Stroll
Fernando 5-4 Ocon

So noob question, how does the Vettel penalty play into the tyre selection for Ferrari tomorrow?

Sainz still gets to start on his tire of choice. I'm sure they'll both go Medium-Hard and one stop tomorrow.

A few pages ago I posted how many laps were done on each tire last week. A medium/hard strategy (last week's soft/medium tires) would be really stretching the limits of the tires. Plus I think the track is going to be hotter this week. I wouldn't mind seeing a mix of one and two stop strategies, but I hope most guys go for two stops. Guys doing one stop will be hanging on for dear life, and that's boring.

C5 = soft (not used last week)
Last week:
C4 = 26 to 31 laps (last week's soft)
C3 = 27 to 41 laps (last week's medium)

That's interesting. I just heard them earlier mention a one stop strategy for the guys starting on mediums. Hopefully you're right and there will be some mixed strategies.

The only thing that makes me think we might still get a one stop race is based on last weeks tire deg. The lap times were really consistent even on older tires.

Verstappen did 29 laps on the C3 and was only a little slower at the end of the stint than the beginning. On lap 4 he did a 69.6, on lap 27 he did a 69.85.

After watching that, Seb got fricked on the penalty. I don't know why the guy at the end of the traffic jam gets dinged because someone seven cars in front of him slow walked turns 9 and 10. Looks like it starts somewhere around Max and Carlos. It was like a Monza-level traffic jam.
