His problem was pretty simple. He wouldn’t move in the pocket. He’d just sit in his spot and let the defense hammer him. The program at that point wasn’t in a good enough place to let him mature and develop the right way but I think you’re right if he had the right coaching staff and patience he definitely could’ve made the NFL. Lord knows he had the stuff you can’t teach.

If I’m not mistaken, the player was Ronald McClendon. I remember all the Tulane fans showing all the class they could muster (meaning none) by assuring us that Tulane beat out LSU for McClendon's services. The day after he announced his commitment to Tulane, he showed up at Ponchatoula High School driving a brand new Explorer (reportedly leased for him by Tulane). As it turned out, LSU had backed off of his recruitment because they knew he wouldn’t even qualify under the old Prop 48 rules. He never made it to the Tulane campus and went and played Junior College ball somewhere. Two years later, he showed up at Ole Miss and never really did much.

I still dislike the guy.
He had to get hurt last season so he couldn't hang 50+ plus on Louisiana Tech.
As bad as things are I think Louisiana Tech would've found the money for fire Gumbie had TJ hung 50+
I was so pissed watching WKU just hand the game to Louisiana Tech.
But no Gumbie won 5 games. Frick you TJ
