Hayes reportedly entered hospice care in his parent's home last week while dealing with chronic liver disease, which he was diagnosed with two years ago according to ESPN. Hayes had been placed on a waiting list for a liver transplant at Mayo Clinic and Northwestern Medicine in December, ESPN shared in its initial report last week.

Horrible. RIP.

Hayes shared with ESPN that he believed his illness stemmed from nonprescription pain medications throughout his NFL career combined with a family history of liver disease. He was first diagnosed with alcoholic cirrhosis, but after further research it was realized that Hayes had a chronic disease and he admitted that he did not consume alcohol at a level that would lead to cirrhosis.

I'm curious if PED use had any relationship because I know liver issues are one of the most common PED symptoms.

Eta: It would also be good for him to claim painkillers because then his parents could sue the NFL on some level.

My first thought as well. I am sure PED use is pretty common throughout the NFL

It's puts morality in perspective when you watched every game of a player who's only a couple of years younger than you announces an illness like this and is dead within a week

Tylenol, be careful not to use more than prescribed doses. My father died at 66 for the same reason.

I'd bet PEDs had exponentially more impact on his genetic predisposition than Tylenol or ibuprofen did.

Same age as me.

I'm sad to say the only thing I knew about him was when he talked shite about how FSU was going to knock Tebow out back in 2007 then we dropped a 45-12 bomb on them in Gainesville, including TT personally knocking Geno on his arse on a big run.

I'm sure he was a great person and no one deserves to have their life taken away so early.
