CFB:

In 1980 and before, an offensive pass interference foul in the endzone was an automatic touchback and turnover to the defense.

So if you had 1st and goal at the 2 yard line and a receiver committed OPI in the endzone, the defense then got the ball at the 20-yard line.

I clicked on this thread fully expecting you to mention a rule that made complete sense and you were a moron for not understanding.

I was wrong. What a terrible rule lol.

This is where we always argue about touchback on a fumble through the end zone.

People will say an offensive player fumbling into the endzone and the ball going out of bounds resulting in a touchback doesn’t make sense and it really doesn’t, but I like the rule.

Should be offense ball on the 20.

I don’t really care for illegal touching on receivers. As long as they don’t use people on the sideline to evade defenders it doesn’t really provide an advantage

You’d basically be giving them and extra 5 plus yards of field to run routes with

Should be offense's ball at the spot of the fumble. Possession never changed and shouldn't be allowed to advance the ball forward on a fumble.

on the touchback rule. say im the offensive team on MY OWN 1 yard line and after the hand off i get out the endzone, say a 1 yard gain, i fumble and the ball is knocked around out of the endzone with no clear recovery or possession change, do i then get the ball on the 20 for a 19 yard gain and a new set of downs. no way that can be the result right? gotta be a safety i would imagine.

Playing defense would be literally impossible without this rule
