Michigan is taking the first steps to pay college athletes, and its about time.

These guys put their lives on the line day in and day out for what? Free cleats?

It's time to pay them what they are worth to us and our schools.

The SEC needs to get on board with this, and quickly, if we want to be able to recruit against schools in Michigan.

Really? I know soldiers put their lives on the line. I know cops put their lives on the line. But football players? Please explain.

You are a special kind of stupid if you think that is all they get (and I'm not even including a FREE college education - which at Michigan would be worth about $200,000).

The article talks about outside sponsors paying them. Contrary to popular belief, there are few, if any, athletic departments that can afford to pay players. Remember, if a school pays a football player, they also have to pay soccer, golf, and swimming the same thing (mens and women's).

Incoming, “they play for a free education” chants by the geriatric generation. But the risking their lives comment is definitely dramatic.

Paying college football players is the worst idea ever and will ruin college athletics. The players are already paid far more than “cleats”. If a player doesn’t want to be “used by the system” no one is forcing them to sign a college scholarship. They can join the workforce immediately after high school if they choose.

There's a term call "Killing the Golden Goose" that some people need to get familiar with.

These players only want to take part in the good, but not the bad. Be a partner in the wins, but not the losses.
