The Houston Press reported Friday that there is no indication that any NHL and Toyota Center pairing is imminent but suggested "discussions could soon begin again" thanks to the arena's long-discussed popularity in hockey circles. Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, for example, told ESPN in 2015 that he'd love to put a team in the arena.

I don’t even like hockey but an NHL team in Houston would be fun. I went to a few Aeros games before and live hockey was awesome.

Would be money to have an NHL team in Houston and an affiliated minor league team in a local third-world city like Del Rio or San Antonio.

Already got an AHL team. Think Houston would be a good market for a team if the NHL were to add one more.

There has to be existing franchises out there to be had. No question hockey would do well in Houston.

I think the issue was that Les Anexander, the previous owner of the Rockets, wanted the Aeros to pay a lot more to use the Toyota Center. The reason they went up in price is because he could have made more money with other events (I guess concerts and stuff) instead of the money they made during Aeros games. So the Aeros had to make it worth their while, so they were gonna have to pay more.

And I guess the Aeros thought it was too expensive and so they moved to another city. So even though there is a new owner, I’m skeptical that a deal can be made with another team.

Hockey did do well in Houston. That’s not the reason the Aeros left.

I would buy season tickets the first day available if there was an NHL team in Houston

Actually, it would likely be an expansion team. The league will be at 31 teams with the Vegas Knights being added. Houston getting a team in the West Central would balance the league at 32 teams total with 8 teams per division.
