Father/son NFL quarterback history - only 8 sons in 6 families have made it

Of all the hundreds of NFL QBs (721 that have started a game since 1966), there have only been 7 of their sons that have also played NFL QB. That is less than 1 percent of fathers and even less than that of sons since the NFL QBs on average have likely had more than 1 son.
There have only been 6 families with 8 sons that have had a father/son duo both play NFL QB at any time. Garrett Nussmeier would be the 7th if he makes it as Doug played in 5 NFL games and was 0-2 as a starter.
There has never been a grandfather/grandson NFL QB duo. It will probably happen one day with Arch just because of who he is whether he improves significantly in college or not.
Archie Manning / Peyton Manning
35-101-3 as starter and 151 games / 200-92 as starter and 293 games
Archie Manning / Eli Manning
35-101-3 as starter and 151 games / 125-121 as starter and 248 games
Bob Griese / Brian Griese
98-61-3 as starter and 173 games / 45-38 as starter and 93 games
Phil Simms / Chris Simms
101-68 as starter and 174 games / 7-10 as starter and 24 games
Oliver Luck / Andrew Luck
3-6 as starter and 20 games / 57-37 as starter and 94 games
Phil Simms / Matt Simms
101-68 as starter and 174 games / 195 yards and 4 games
David Whitehurst / Charlie Whitehurst
16-20-1 as starter and 55 games / 2-7 as starter and 25 games
Emery Nix / Kent Nix
6 starts and 565 yards in 15 games / 4-14 as starter and 46 games
Man, the Saints with Archie were terrible - especially on defense.

cant put any of that on Arch
He was as underserved a QB by his team as any QB in the NFL

I agree. Maybe I worded that incorrectly. I loved Archie and the Saints offenses of the late 70s - 1980. Without Archie they would probably have won only 20 games instead of 35 over that period.

Guy gets a pass more than any player in NFL history.

He does… Archie was an inaccurate quarterback who never learn to play from the pocket

The Simms boys were awful.

Archie was 35-101. Wow, sons were a lot better than him.
I get maybe bad defense, but that's still bad QB play. Like the people defending Rattler now on Instagram. He's a bottom 5 NFL QB.

They were but they are still in that less than 1 percent that played in NFL games out of the dozens to hundreds who probably tried.

There was no maybe about it.
Not sure how old you are but Tommy Myers at free safety led the NFL in tackles or was in the top 5 for multiple seasons at a time when running plays were about 60 percent of NFL offense.

NFL films summed up Archie's career perfectly-
"Best of the Worst"
"Best of the Worst"

If you think Joe Burrow is underserved in Cincinnati, and he is, you should have seen the Arching Manning-era Saints…

I knew it was bad, but wow.

Just more proof that who your dad was has little to no bearing on how good you will be. And my guess is that this is true for every position.
We really need to stop anointing guys like Manning, Sanders, and I’ll throw in Max Johnson (who was a five star I believe) based on the rungs up their family trees.
