A woman in her 50s in attendance for Saturday’s New Mexico–New Mexico State game at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces was struck by a bullet in the leg during the game.

Andy Bowen, the Deputy Chief of the NMSU Police, says that the trajectory of the bullet was consistent with it being fired into the air from outside the stadium and that no one at the game heard a shot.

Thankfully, the woman was doing well Sunday night after being flown to an El Paso hospital. But the idea that these types of close calls can happen at such a heavily attended event is extremely disconcerting.

Very strange..

So someone shot up in the air and it landed in the stadium? That's pretty crazy

just be glad you're not watching a game an hour south in El Paso. their stadium is like 300 feet from Juarez.

Mythbusters did the shot in the air thing. If a bullet is shot straight up it isn't lethal on the way down. After it peaks it starts to tumble.

There have been many documented deaths from falling bullets. They talk about it every new years eve.

The El Paso City Hall has been hit with bullets from Juarez in the past. The term "shootout" has a whole different meaning there.

Straight up yes. At an angle it will keep its trajectory and can still do significant damage
