GOAT right now. What happens when Djokovic catches him his last 5 or so years? He's 28 now. Fed and Nadal are no longer the threats they used to be. And Murray won't provide much resistance. Young talent will have to step up to slow down Djokovic.

From what I remember, Pete just blew his wad on that 13th slam and was not great outside of the U.S. Open runs after that Wimbledon win. Boat is right, Federer's win in '12 was that last great performance equivalent to Pete's 2002 US Open. These finals the last two years were just gravy. What's crazy is that I bet more people think Djoker can win five slams and catch Rafa than think Rafa can three and catch Federer. Djoker's failure to close at the French Open the past few years may really cost him in the historical pecking order.

Novak is starting to put up sick numbers just like those. Too bad he lost that RG final because this could have been a GOAT year and get him right near that top five all time.
I think Novak is top 5 all time.

8 slams away from catching him. He's had 8 in the last 5 years. So that's another 5 years worth of having to win slams playing at the same level as the previous 5 years.
Federer racked up 17 slams before the age of 30 because he won like 3 a year in 04, 06, and 07, and also won 2 in 05. Federer bettered what Nole did once in 2011 three different times, that is nuts. 06 and 07 he lost in the final at RG, like Nole did this year.

I think Novak has a great chance to catch Roger unless Nadal somehow finds his game again.
Murray or Wawrinka might steal one a year or so but Novak should win at least 2-3 a year for the next couple of years.

I didn't verify this, just pulled it from somewhere else. I personally believe Djokovic could and should win four more majors. This says he won't win more than two.

I'm certainly no tennis expert but who is the guy that's going to overtake him in the next 2-3 years? He's easily the best in the world right now and his nearest competitors are getting older/worse, not better.

I think the state of tennis is in a down turn overall. Women's tennis is a joke the last 5 years, maybe longer.
Men's tennis is getting bad too. Look at the ages of the top 50 and it is old, really old for tennis.
I think the youngest guy is ranked 26 and he is 21.
Unless there is a dominate junior(s) then tennis is entering some era yet not seen before.
But Djoke is the biggest doper in all of tennis, but his charisma has given him a pass. Tennis makes money so they will let it go and he will make a run at Fed's record.

How is Djokovic a chief rival and not Roddick?
Rivalry implies winning some.

I know, I'm just stirring the pot. But, there are a few fools over on Talk Tennis board that are pounding the idea that a guy cannot be the GOAT if he doesn't have a winning record against his biggest rivals.
Crazy idea. Just nuts.

Fed already did.

To clarify, I love Fed and consider him to be GOAT or top 3 for sure. I was just saying clay is one of his weaker attributes I guess.

Borna Coric is probably the best bet to be the next great player in tennis. He's only 18 years old yet he already has wins over Nadal and Murray and made two ATP 500 semifinals. He's also climbed all the time at way to 37th in the world which is very impressive for a player of his age. By comparison, Novak Djokovic was ranked 63rd in the world at age 18. Kyrgios is also another promising player. He was the first player to make two GS quarterfinals as a teenager since some guy by the name of Roger Federer. There are some questions about him though. His return game is well below average, his attitude can be very bad and he's been pretty injury prone for a young player. But his mental toughness is off the charts for a player his age and I think all of his issues can be fixed as he gets older and gains more maturity.

Actually the 95-96 generation looks pretty promising. Kyrgios has made two GS quarterfinals and is consistently going deep into slam. Coric is already a top 40 player at age 18, has wins over Nadal and Murray and has made two ATP 500 semifinals. There are a few other very promising young players like Kokkinakis and Chung. I think the future outlook for the ATP is the brightest it's been in a while.

Djokovic is going to probably get at least 8 after 27.

There was definitely a gap. i guess that's to be expected when European mothers pop out Nadal, Murray, and Djokovic within a year of each other.
Since then:
Juan Martin Del Potro -- great player who can't stay healthy.
Milos Raonic -- is terrible.
Babyfed -- the hype was more than he could bear.
Kei -- he's doing really well. I think he can win a major.
Cilic -- has already won a major. Could win another or two. I wouldn't rule it out.
Jack Sock -- dat forehand doe.
