I may do it when we have 3 races in a month. Looks appealing, but not having a TV app (which I don't think they have yet) makes it kind of killer for me.

Most of the content is available on social media or youtube. I am usually good with the world feed and don't require following a certain driver to the level that would make F1TV worthwhile.

Indy car is at COTA this weekend I’m interested to see lap times versus F1.

When IndyCar tested at COTA a few weeks ago the best time was about 14s slower than last year's F1 pole time. My guess is that the pole time this Saturday will drop a couple of seconds, so maybe the deficit will "only" be around 12s.

1:32.237 Lewis Hamilton pole time
1:46.626 Colton Herta on Feb. 13

Note that in 2018 IndyCar went with a new aerokit, reducing downforce by around 2,000 lbs, in an effort to improve the racing (the changes allow cars to follow each other closer). So that made the deficit to F1 that much worse.

The race times are much much closer than that. I would expect that the first laps of the F1 cars to be in the 1:40s for the 2018 race.

Pole times are so much lower than what the cars are capable of during the race.

Quali speed is still a good indicator of raw speed as they go low fuel and crank up the engine

No doubt. F1 is unsustainable for anything other than a lap or two though.

Indy will be running right around their best times for the entire race. They don't change their engine mapping, don't have DRS, are heavy as hell, and are allowed to refuel. Plus don't have to worry as much with tire mamagement.

Two totally different race approaches.

Comparing the times will only tell you what you already know. A 100 million dollar car is faster than a 5 million dollar car.

OK this Sunday, March 31 is the Bahrain Grand Prix

Race: 11:05 am EDT on ESPN2
Pre-race show: 10:30 am EDT on ESPN2

Tire compounds for Bahrain: C1, C2, and C3
There are five compounds this year:
C1 - Hard
C2 - Medium
C3 - Soft
C4 - Supersoft
C5 - Ultrasoft
However, whichever three compounds Pirelli brings to a race, they will be referred to as Hard, Medium, and Soft, and they will only use three sidewall colors. So the only way to know the true compound is when they declare the compounds C1 to C5 prior to the race.

Recent winners:
2018 - Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari)
2017 - Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari)
2016 - Nico Rosberg (Mercedes)
2015 - Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)
2014 - Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

It's good to see some new F1 fans around here. For those not familiar with the Bahrain track, here is a virtual lap of the circuit. Note that they've added a 3rd DRS zone between turns 3 & 4. And here is a track map:

Based on what I’ve read, should be more overtaking than Australia...

uninformed hot take-ish podium prediction:

1. Verstappen
2. Bottas
3. Leclerc

My bold will be

Vettel
Ricciardo
Kvyat

Merc goes down due to reliability and Verstappen wrecks into someone showing how much of a bold future racing talent he will be when he finally matures in a few years.

Ferrari running just about a second faster than the Mercs in FP1, and half a second faster in FP2. Red Bull not far behind Mercedes.

Glad to see that. I was worried that Ferrari had lost their pace this year after Melbourne. Not that I necessarily want Ferrari to win but I want somebody to threaten the Mercs.

Pretty interesting to see Nico running so quick in FP2, but Riciardo still struggling so much.

Bold is definitely keeping Merc off the podium! I'd love to see that happen after Bottas and Hamilton get into each other. LOL.

Nico ran well in 1&2, Sainz had a nice FP1 and Lando had a nice FP2, so the Renault engines doing alright except...

Ricciardo
