Dr. killed himself with a knife to the chest

The jury returned its decision in Cox’ Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit against Lorich, the Hospital for Special Surgery and New York-Presbyterian, awarding the footballer $15.5 million in future pain and suffering, $12 million in lost earnings and $1 million in past pain and suffering.
The running back underwent surgery by Dr. Dean Lorich and the procedure allegedly failed to fully repair Cox’s left ankle, basically ending his career.
Cox sued the physician and the hospital in 2016 for unspecified damages.
On Friday, Cox was awarded a $28.5 million verdict in the case.
Cox was a seventh-round pick out of Massachusetts in 2013. He had 26 carries for 76 yards as a Giant. The team had given him a four-year, $2.3 million contract.

Suing doctors is a good gig if you can get it apparently.

I mean, it’s a little bit more logical when you think investment potential is factored into this which they absolutely did

over 1/2 the award is for future pain and suffering

Still bullshite. Lots of former athletes and working people deal with lifelong pain. The doctor's failure to fix one of the multiple injuries the guy suffered doesn't mean he should've been sued into oblivion (or suicide). A 7th rounder from UMass should've been thrilled to get a couple million from the Giants. Odds are most NFL players have careers of less than 3 years.

I’d like to know more about the doctor, the surgery, and why he committed suicide.
Cox had a devastating injury that broke his leg, ankle, and severe cartilage damage. It was the type of injury that can end a career. No surprise a fringe roster type player never made it back after that type of injury.
It doesn’t mean his surgery wasn’t completely botched, and Cox has to suffer the consequences for the rest of his life, but the details of this case are lacking.

None of this adds up. I must be missing something, since do 7th round picks with 26 carries for 76 yards get a 4 year contract.

This is pathetic. The sue happy culture and justice system that awards it is a huge negative in our country
