Or is it just me?

31. Devin Booker
39. DeRozan

I’m not a big DeMar guy, but this is...baffling.

ETA: For comparison
SI list

Booker is 21 years old and coming off a 25 ppg season. It's not that odd.

DeRozan has maxed out, but Booker is growing fast.

I'm not sure what's so baffling about that?

Both are awful on defense, DeMarr is a much more limited offensive player.

ETA: this is also projecting how good they will be this coming season, Booker is younger and expected to grow his game much more than DeMarr.

DD has put up numbers while contributing to winning. Booker has put up numbers on lottery teams. I like Booker but one is easily more impressive than the other

Porter over DeRozan is baffling too & I like Porter.

Kawhi’s trade value was down, but the Spurs would have balked at Porter,IMO.

Niko is better Myles’s Turner too

Derozan is one of the most overrated players in the league. That’s about right

DeRozan didn't put up numbers on a "winning" team until his 5th season, when Lowry showed up. Booker has no "sidekick".

To decide, voters had to consider both the quality and the quantity of each player's contributions to his team's ability to win games.

By that metric it makes sense. Suns ain't doing anything without Booker(might not do anything anyway) but the Spurs win at least 45 every year.

The degree of variance between SI and ESPN is interesting.

SI has Wall at 24, ESPN @ 32
Hayward at 25,40(obviously different views on injury)
DeRozan jumps 9 spots in SI ranking

Booker is 50 in SI rankings

That s unequivocally wrong.

Booker had knight/Bledsoe, both 20 ppg a game scorers. Plus guys like Morris, Warren, and Telly his rookie year.

The following year he had Bledsoe and Warren.

Last year Warren was a 20 ppg scorer. Jackson was 13.

Lots of guys can put up 25 on a team like PHX,where you are down Double digits the opposition isn’t exactly trying their best on D. Especially when the suns have a turnstile D And you know you can go get a bucket on the other end.

Not a lot of guys are around 25, 5 and 5 when they play with a bunch of G Leaguers and are doubled the entire game and have zero space to operate because like one other player is capable of knocking down threes somewhat consistently.

ETA:

My favorite thing about people delivering piping hot takes on Devin Booker is that if they're honest, they've maybe watched him play like 3 or 4 full games in the NBA.
