Same as Dwayne Johnson today.
what does one need to do to promote black culture exactly? WTF does that even mean?

What exactly did the OJ trial change? If anything it caused more racial injustice.

BigEdLSU pretty much nails it. I was sitting in an Applebe's restaurant, mixed crowd up in Chicago, all the TV's on. When the not guilty verdict was announced, what I heard the most was "FRICK WHITEY". This in a regular semi white collared restaurant. The producer was interviewed on Out Side The Lines Sunday & he said his main purpose in producing this documentary was to explain to whites why blacks were celebrating the verdict. Another reason, apparently still to come, was to show just how vicious the murders were: after stabbing them both to death, OJ then went back & practically severed their heads, especially Nicole's. While I understand blacks' reactions, I wonder why they never address the deaths themselves.

Watch part two. It was made clear oj didn't want to be seen as black
Maybe it was part one... But it's eye opening

You keep implying that I think rappers are the voice of black America. what about black pastors?
Look it up. You will see many.
The hypocrisy of gangster rappers turned hollywood white culture people is obvious to objective people.

One of the more interesting ways I've seen someone describe an Applebee's.

And surely you would agree they are adopting white culture for fame and fortune, right? Similar to oj, not identical.

That's great but I'm asking you specifically what does someone need to do to "promote black culture?" What is considered black culture?

The most glaring instance from watching this series to me is when he was at the private Hollywood club and was pleased to be asked why he was sitting with n*******.
He was happy because the whites considered him not like them.
He should have walked out of the event.
He didn't care about the plight of those who looked like him, because he was ushered and accepted into mainstream white america.
He was a sellout.

Just an FYI in case some of you aren't aware, all 5 parts are available on WatchESPN and they're completely uncut. F-bombs left and right, N word left and right. I don't thinking watching the edited version on TV can properly drive home the point.

Was that "white" or "right"?

Ok that seems like a legit gripe, do you have a similar story about Dwayne Johnson? What does he need to do to properly promote black culture? I mean starring in a movie with Kevin Hart has to get him some points, right?
Posted on 6/15/16 at 10:06 am to Col Nathan Jessup
White without doubt. You an lapd officer? Black and normal right?
Posted on 6/15/16 at 10:10 am to BigEdLSU
I'm not sure how you answered BiLj's question about what is black culture. Well, you didn't.
Young OJ not giving in to the civil rights activists was actually right. He was not a slave to them.

its tough to ever get much of a straight answer on that. I hear it said quite a bit when they accuse one of their own of selling out or acting white, but they never specify what they mean by it.

Yes I stayed up and finished the whole thing & just now waking up.
Hands down the best work ESPN has ever done.
I couldn't help but let some tears flow listening to Ron Ship describe the first time he saw a homicide victim & how all of those same emotions were brought up when he seen the brutal photos of Nichole. It wasn't until then did he decide to testify against O.J.

Don't know why people overlook the role of the LAPD, after Rodney King, Latasha Harlins and several decades of abuse and corruption within the police department it was 100% believable to many that they would frame a high profile black man
You have Mark Fuhrman on tape being a racisit and having Nazi paraphernalia. Detectives taking evidence home. Gloves that don't fit and load of other questionable facts being presented to a skeptical jury and public. Blame the prosecution and the police department more than anyone
The defense presented OJ as another victim on the LAPD and justice system. THATS what black people flocked too. That finally someone was able to beat them at their own game.
Was that the truth, no. But the only people to blame for not fighting that narrative was Marcia Clark, Chris Darden, Fuhrman and crew

I listed the example that makes me say he is a sellout. What are you asking me in the context of the oj series?
Posted on 6/15/16 at 10:57 am to BilJ
quote:it wasn't because he wasn't promoting black culture. It was because he didn't want to stand up and bring their awful situation to the forefront like Muhammed Ali and Tommie smith and John carlos. He had a way to make people more aware of how black people were being treated in Los Angeles and he never tried to. That's what people are so upset about and that's what makes the black communities response to his acquittal so ironic
