Those companies have offices in lots of different places, which provide choice. There are also even more choices in even more places in the same industry with similar corporate reputations and compensation to provide even more options. None of that exists in American professional sports.

So the NBA needs more teams?

I hear the Big 3 league is looking for talent. He’s free to sign there.
He’s also free to apply to the same companies you’re talking about in any city in the country.
There’s your choice.

To clarify, I’m not advocating blowing up the system. I’m just saying that the lack of choice is unfortunate from the athlete’s perspective.

Which is why I said it’s a good deal overall

No. I haven’t even begun to imply that.

The fact that you think this is a “conservative” view is pretty hilarious.
It is sad that conservative don’t have it.

Of course it is. Wtf are you talking about?
ETA: you seem to be mixing up “freedom” and “entitlement”.

And they are located in set spots. Spots that not everyone wants to live. They can choose to work for another company just like Zion can.
No they aren’t.
Another company? In the ststes? Lol
Companies : avoid the fact that in any other field you can leave your company and get good work in this country. Noted. Lol
Freedom: you are pretending.

Was that supposed to be a coherent post? Because I have no idea what you’re trying to say

What about the NBAs freedom to operate in 30 cities and agree to a CBA that includes a draft process that the NBA players and reps agree to?
Again, I’m not advocating a position other than I think the situation is poor. And that the writer has points. He isn’t retarded.

In the NBA, a first-round pick who shows promise is effectively under the control of the team that drafted him for the first seven seasons of his career. This means that in the most formative years of their professional development, the most talented young men in basketball are given no agency to decide what most of us take for granted: where we will live, work and put down roots in our adult lives.
As Anthony Davis was preparing to become the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NBA draft, I wrote a piece proposing the NBA ditch the draft. Though the idea was presented as a fix for tanking, I also wanted to emphasize the principle of fair labor. I suggested that among the effects stemming from the abolition of the draft "would be a likely uptick in retention. A young player who chooses his destination based on his personal criteria is far more likely to stick around long term."
Freedom of choice for players should be a sacrosanct principle, particularly in a league that claims to value meritocracy. Looking at the roster of NBA owners, it's hard to believe that these billionaire proprietors, many of them self-made, don't subscribe to that virtue. Can you imagine if Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera -- who, upon graduating from UC San Diego with a master's in engineering, chose to take his skills to Apple -- was instead asked by some governing authority in big tech, "Where don't you want to go?" then promptly assigned there?
Does this turd not know of Danny Ferry? How about the speculation about Shaq and LA when Orlando drafted him? Kobe to LA from Charlotte? What about the ABA days when players chose between two leagues and teams? Apparently this dummy knows nothing about history or leverage, hell he's probably never engaged in a serious negotiation his entire life!

Should military personnel have their base of choice also? Guaranteed?
You enlist. You aren’t drafted. You aren’t supremely talented and in demand.
You get to chose your profession.
This is a really stupid comparison.

It might help if you actually quoted something.

Fun fact, you can hit the posters name and it will bring you to the post that that poster is replying to.

It was stupid. It isn’t an apt comparison.
I’m not gonna continue w it.

Cool. Still easier for you to quote.
Edit: I’m not running away, but I got stuff to do right now.
