Lakeshore is a playground that is part of JPRD. The JPRD teams are all star teams from all of the playgrounds in the parish.

You wouldn’t play Lakeshore playground as its own entity at a state level unless it was a Dixie youth.

After 12YO, the playgrounds go to babe Ruth. The JPRD team is then formed after the playground league is over.

Lakeview may be what you are thinking of. But they aren’t exactly a powerhouse in this area

Yeah, despite what the know it all is saying in this thread, there was most certainly a team called Lakeshore that was a powerhouse in Babe Ruth. At 13 there was a Lakeshore team plus a JPRD East and West. I'm 100000% certain of this.

Eastbank will play South Korea tonight at 8:00 Central time for the 13U Little League world championship. Eastbank has their ace available.

Yeah. At least in the mid 2000s, 12u ball was individual playground rec ball, then all stars (best kids from each rec league), winner advancing through to states, regionals, nationals, etc.

13u we didn't have a rec league. You tried out for your park all star team (Harahan Hawks FTW) and played a league season against the other park all star teams. At the end of that season, they selected a parish team (JPRD all stars) of the best kids from each playground in the parish. From there we went to state, regionals, world series, etc.

Lakeview was good when I was growing up. Very effected by Katrina, but had a few D1 players.

Best JPRD baseball teams when I was going through were Girard, Harahan, and Miley. Our Harahan team lost to Girard in the championship twice It was brutal.

My age group +/- 1 year were the first to really branch off into travel ball. as 9 and 10 year olds we did both rec and travel ball. The 10u all star season is really short. Once we were 11, we stopped playing park ball because it was really just a waste of time - Not that we were all division 1 baseball players, we just weren't getting any better playing against kids who couldn't throw a baseball twice a week in rec league. Went back to park ball at 13 when you could just play on the all-star team right away and play that schedule one last year before metro/legion ball.

It is sad to see what the parks have become though. There's no reason Harahan playground shouldn't have kids on the field every day from February to July. There's no need to play shitty, pay travel ball at 8 years old.

Yeah Eastbank always reaching out far and wide
The player from lutcher the year they won the little league World Series and this older team with the ascension kid whose dad is the head coach at dutchtown
I guess they get around it with relatives that probably live in the east bank area they pull from

Yep, you nailed it. All the people that throw out the travel ball crap on this board either don't get it, or their kids really really suck and they are jealous. There is no point for a kid who likes the sport, and just wants to play high school ball, to play in most of these rec leagues. They are getting absolutely nothing out of it and just slowing their development big time. It's not about going pro, and getting into college. The travel ball cliches thrown around on here don't even apply to 99% of travel ball teams. Then you see the cliches thrown around in every LL thread like this. This isn't even travel ball. Now, I would assume majority of these kids you see here are playing some sort of ball outside of rec, but it's almost a necessity.

I agree with pretty much all of this.

Having said that, and having been around places like Traction, I do feel bad for the parents that just want their kids to play a little baseball in the summer. I feel like that's very, very hard to accomplish today without spending boatloads of money. Rec leagues are dying. I don't even fault Traction. They have their stud teams that play a full travel ball circuit and they had so many kids come out, they'd be stupid to turn down that business. It's just sad what it's all become.

I have heard that Girard and Miley were full this summer, which gives me hope.

Parks like Girard, Pontiff, Lakeshore are the rec league exceptions. Kids are still showing up in huge numbers, both kids who play travel and kids who only want to play rec. Girards 10U and 12U are both playing in the Dixie Youth WS.

Aside from Pard, the Westbank numbers have declined. Travel ball kids mostly only play travel. I think that’s why they merged with the GNO LL chapter for only the WB parks.
