They sign Penney (elite efficiency when healthy) to a 1 year $1.35M (600k guaranteed) and then trade what a 5th and swap 7th for Swift
Eta a 2025 4th not a 5th

Boston Scott and Gainwell saw plenty of action last season. They also had Trey Sermon. Jalen Hurts has to feel extra good about his line and running game.

And drafted a similar player with a high 1st rd pick.

Maybe Swift wanted out or they think he’s an injury issue?

Doesn’t make any sense on paper though.

One franchise is competing for Super Bowls the other drafts RB in the first 2 rounds every other year and gets rid of them for nothing

All talented but super injured. Should have at least one really good back healthy.

Between being able to rotate and Hurts getting carries, all the RBs should be able to stay relatively healthy and fresh.

Another point - Swift being on his last year of a contract, if he walks after next year Eagles likely get a comp pick back for him. So in essence Eagles either see enough to re-sign him, or gave up nothing to take a punt on him for a year.

This is why roseman is such a good gm. He is always dealing. For a 5th you get a look at a young explosive running back and if the money if right you can sign him after the year.

If he wants too much, let him walk like they just did with cgj.

I wish my team's gm did more wheeling and dealing like this. Using every avenue to make your team better. The best gms draft we'll but they also leverage situations like this.

As someone else mentioned they still have Gainwell and Scott and of course Hurts. It’s true that Penney and Swift have been hurt a lot but it’s not like they play zero games. The upside is an elite rb at basically no cost, definitely worth a flyer and it’s unlikely both miss the entire season at least one is likely healthy st a given time

They are changing their ways. Instead of spending an early 2nd on a RB, they used a pick in the middle of the first.

They also are getting a fourth round* pick back for Swift.

* Actually a fourth round pick in 2025 is nothing. A day 3 draft pick two years from now has no value.

I know a lot of Eagles fans who were ready to run him out of town over the Raegor pick but he hasn’t really missed since that one

Fan’s generally speaking are stupid. No one bats 1.000 and it looks worse because of how Jefferson panned out but they took Hurts in the 2nd round of that same draft
