I remember Dusty saying guys drawing walks just clogged up the basepaths. Good times.

last year when 1-8 were mashing the Stros could afford an out in the lineup like Maldonaldo
this year with Tucker, Pena and Brantley struggling, abreu inconsistent, dusty could not afford Framber and Verlander's personal catcher being an everyday starter
supposedly Dusty and some of the SPs loved Maldonado's framing ability
Maldonado was 6th in total pitches caught and 63rd in Catcher Framing and Strike Rate - that is DEAD LAST in the MLB
Catcher Stats
for a guy that was supposed to be such a great defensive catcher Maldonado actually kind of sucked. Yainer Diaz is young but a marginally better catcher and much better hitter in split duty this year. Diaz hit .278 over 355 AB while Maldy hit .191 over 362 AB
but apparently Dusty and the SPs didnt trust Diaz enough to stick with him in the playoffs
fond farewell Dusty Baker, thanks for 2022

Best manager in Astros history - build the statue, would look great with the toothpick hanging out of his mouth

I was unaware Astros fans didn’t like dusty baker. Was he bad at managing the bullpen or what?

He has a habit of holding back talented, young players in favor of marginal vets that he can personally relate with.
