Did you read the list?

People realize that Brett Favre was league mvp 3x, right?

Not a Saints fan by any means but it's a joke that Elway and Staubach made the list over Brees

Dude, Staubach had years where he was 50 points higher in passer rating than the league average.

He led the NFL in passer rating 4 times.

In 1971 he had a passer rating of 104, the guy who led the league in passer rating the year before had a 93.

His YPC was 13.3, Brees is 10.3.

It was a more vertical, more violent game and Staubach played his entire career before the Mel Blount rule.

No MVPs points to how underrated he's been. He was named offensive POtY in a year where Rodgers won MVP. Think about that absurdity.
Not to mention 2009 where head was unequivocally better than Peyton Manning legitimately across the board, and Peyton got MVP somehow.

I'll never get why anyone puts one iota of stock into MVPs.

not surprised.

I guess i'm just a simpleton and glad that he lead the Saints to a Super Bowl.

he'll go into the Hall of Fame as well.

set all kinds of records that people like to discredit given the era he played in.

meanwhile Manning and Brady made most of their hay in about the same time. They won more more sb's and mvp's though so i can see it.

oh well.

Favre? Really? He's the most overrated QB since Joe Namath

If they played on a power 5 team that won something of relevance? Yea probably. Bad comparison

The NFC South is practically the MAC of NFL Football so it actually makes sense.

Brees is a system QB and has been for his whole career. The voters were thankfully intelligent enough to get this.

See my post above.

Drew Brees played the position better than Favre, it doesn't matte how you spin it, Favre was very, very obviously inferior at playing QB than Brees.

MVPs are laughable to use. And to be fair, I've said that for as long as I've posted on this board, so it's not a new take just because it doesn't benefit Brees.

MVP is literally just a a award given by journalists, the same type of shite that puts a guy like Favre over an obviously better QB like Brees.

Drew Brees did the exact same thing on 2018 vs the 2017 leader.

At the time of his retirement, Staubach was 19th all-time in passing yards and 23rd in passing TDs. Brees will be #1 or #2 all-time in both lists when he retires. At the time of his retirement, Staubach was #6 all-time in completion percentage which is tremendous. Brees is #1 all-time in completion percentage.

Ever hear of Eras?

You just spout stats like the two played against each other last week.

Yeah, and Alex Smith has a greater career passer rating than Dan fricking Marino.

Ehh, Rodgers actually earned it in 2011. He had a ridiculous season and the Packers had the highest scoring offense in football that year. He threw for 45 TDs and only 6 INTs while averaging over 10 air yards per attempt and completed 68% of his passes. Their leading rusher had under 600 yards. They ran for under 1600 yards as a team, yet they looked like an unstoppable machine all season until that inexplicable playoff loss to NY.

2009 is the year where Brees has the most legitimate gripe and should have won it.

Yep. More to the position of QB than just stats.

If that's the case, your logic DEFINITELY has Brees over Brady.

Another way to look at it: Weighted Career Approximate Value per season played:

Peyton Manning - 9.83
Roger Staubach - 9.55

Tom Brady - 8.75
John Elway - 8.63
Dan Marino - 8.53

John Unitas - 8.14 (1960 - 1973)
Brett Favre - 7.80
Joe Montana - 7.69

Sammy Baugh - no rating (before 1960)
Otto Graham - no rating (before 1960)

Brees - 8.63
Tarkenton - 8.28

Brees top 5 again

Right, that's all nonsense, always has been.

Why in the world would I use awards given out by people who I can't even name?

It's lazy, and basically conceding you can't judge things like this for yourself.

2009, Peyton won MVP over Brees. Go look at their numbers and tell me how that award means anything and why in the world would I put any stock into it?

Except Brady doesn't choke in the playoffs like Brees does.
