no person, especially a golfer, in his right mind can say this and really believe it.

Why not? He needs five more to break the record. He will be 35 this year.
Jack won 6 majors after the age of 35. Tiger needs 5 to beat Jacks record. In the modern history of golf the following people have won 5 majors in their entire career (minus Nicklaus and Tiger):
Hogan
Player
Watson
Seve
Faldo
Palmer
That's it ... So from here on out - if you wipe out all he has done in the game - Tiger will have to have one of the best careers in the history of the game to break jack's record.
I just do not see it happening

we are talking about a guy that won 3 us juniors and 3 us amateurs in a row, won 14 majors before the age of 34, won the us open by 15, won the masters at the age of 21 by 12 and you are comparing him to Seve and Faldo??
take a look at hogan - 9 majors after he was 34. plus, guys are playing better in their 40's now. he is a lock to get it. his whole life has been about 19. he will get it and i think about 5 more after he breaks it.

Only time will tell. I honestly do not think he gets another. I have said that since last years US Open. I would bet my house, my first wife and my future children that he doesn't get 24.
ETA: Not really comparing him to those guys just pointing out that to get to the recored he would have to have one of the best careers ever (if you wipe out what he has done) to get there from here on out. I just do not see it. We will have to agree to disagree and come back here in 16 years and see who was right

Way more good golfers that can hang with Tiger and win majors these days than 5-10 years ago

I don't care how many majors he wins, he's still a fricking scumbag.

does anyone still think he won't break nicklaus's record after he said he "absolutely" thought he would do it?
Why would you ever base your opinion on this subject on something Tiger said?

Now with no wife to appease and pamper, he will focus more than ever and I say he wins 4-6 more majors before he is finished, retiring with 18-20 and 75-80 or so overall PGA wins. He can win one major every year or two for the next 6 years, maybe 2 in one year. What I don't get is the RIDICULOUS world rankings. Based on inactivity and no rounds all year under 70, until yesterday, he should be 10th-20th in the world right now!

I can understand you arguing that he won't break Jack's record, but I don't get how you can argue this with a straight face. To use your argument, he only has to have the career of Shaun Micheel, Todd Hamilton, Rich Beem, Ben Curtis, or Paul Lawrie to get one more.

I know you are rooting for Tiger to get on the Ryder Cup team so you can really get behind your boy Rory Mcilroy, arent you?
