Does Jack White get paid every time "7 Nation Army" is played at a sporting event?

He probably got a lump sum for the use of that song.

I think a song has to be played longer than 7 seconds or something like that for royalties to kick in. Not sure how long seven nation army is played.

MTV used to use a Megadeth bass intro as the intro to MTV News and Dave Mustaine said he never saw a dime because it cut off right before the royalty threshold.

With as much as it’s played in all sorts of sporting events does anyone else feel like the song has been out for wayyyyyyy longer than it actually has?

I'm pretty sure that is myth. That 7 seconds time frame.

The arena buys a license from the Performing Rights Organization (PRO)which is either BMI, ASCAP or SESAC who then distribute money to the Songwriter and/or Publisher. The artists gets cut out of the deal unless they are the songwriter or publisher.

Back in my radio days, we had to do a log yearly (I think) for BMI. Name of song, artist, and writer(s). I'd always slip in some favorites so that, hopefully, I could make a few extra bucks for guys I liked.
