Agreed. Just saying it wasn't an ARod, Big Tex, or CC size acquisition.

But I'll give you this; mattingly is my 2nd favorite MLB player ever. Second only to Thurman. (maybe I shoulda been a Yanks fan?)

Yanks get a lot of grief over payroll, but they pay home grown players (Jeter, Cano, Rivera, Posada) just a few they paid absurd contracts to and then filled out roster with FA's.
Sure they spend on FA's (Tex,Arod,CC) but the difference between them and others is they don't lose home grown stars and they have willingness to sign FA's

3 of those 4 you listed made their MLB in '95. That was 17 years ago.
