and the kick return yards only make up a small portion of his total yards.
quote:It should be, but I also don't see why you're not really seeing his comment for what it is, that the total yards can be a bit overrated sometimes as well.
Coaches put him there because he's the best player they have at that position. I don't see why that can't be factored into his hype.

I think he's over hyped. He's versatile, but people need to chill out.
The backs at Georgia are really good.
Josh Adams from Notre Dame is a really good back.
I'm sure Alabama has some horses in the backfield.
Guice is really good when healthy.
Bryce Love is really good.
We'll find out a lot more about Barkley this weekend.

Josh Adams
This week was the first time ESPN gave him any Heisman love. He is 6th in the country in rushing, and has 50ish less carries than the 5 guys in front of him. If he puts up 100+ against NC State and Miami he has to start getting some national recognition.
Only thing that will hurt him is he has almost no receiving yards, which seems like a requirement these days for backs.

if Barkley shreds OSU, lll start giving him more credit
i just dont get why hes the clear favorite when soooo many others are right beside him statistically

Behind one of the best OL in the country, Adams was shut down vs. UGA. That really hurts his campaign.

youre right man, ND should start scheduling G5 schools like Georgia State instead of UGA
maybe Josh Adams would even get 140 yards receiving then. who knows

I agree, he only had 53 rushing yards, but he also had 6 catches for 60 yards that game, so 113 total yards. It's not like UGA's defense is a bunch of scrubs though.

honestly, any stats against G5 schools should be tossed.
its pretty disgusting how far those games will shape people's perceptions of a player

Good point. I think his receiving yards may help him overcome that 2.8 YPC in that game. I wasn't even looking at receiving, honestly.

They don't have to be as important as your rushing stats, and just because they aren't as important as your rushing stats doesn't make those contributions "overrated". If you're a homerun threat at the return position and score touchdowns, and if you're a beast running back who can catch out the backfield, it's going to just add to the resume of you probably being the best player in college football.

I think he's a solid back but PSU hasn't really played anyone yet. I just don't think he's what he's being hyped up to be.
Overhyped to the point of what? Presumptive Heisman frontrunner and no. 1 RB draft selection, appears reasonable to me considering all his football exploits and how he's elevated Penn State to top 4 status in America currently, a total yards beast

does anyone value statistical thinking?
as a running back he is only 4th in his conference in YPC and 3rd in rushing yards
Loves lowest YPC in any game this season is higher than Barkley's highest against any P5 opponent this season.
so...its pretty easy to see why we can criticize him as being the "runaway leading candidate"

one of these is Joe Mixon
the other is Barkley
one is the leading Heisman candidate
one wasnt even on the radar as a candidate

I wonder if what happened 2 years ago will happen to him--he doesn't even get invited to the ceremony when he has 30 yards rushing on 18 carries vs. Ohio State.

Penn State's top 4 in America, their best player leads that top 4 team in yards from scrimmage, scoring, their kick return dynamo AND has thrown a TD pass he ALSO leads the Big Ten conference in scoring which is the primary objective of organized football: SCORING MORE POINTS THAN THE OPPONENT
His defining games of 2017 thus far:
Iowa: 358 total yards, 1 TD, leaping over a defender, 8 YPC
Michigan: 176 total yards, 3 TDs(!), 9 YPC
He can block, catch, run, return and pass and has elevated this once disgraced program to national contender.
Airtight argument: submitted

just like all other Heisman candidates, pls go
hell, last year Mayfield had one of the most statistically efficient seasons ever. An actual record-breaking year.
this year, he’s on track to surpass what he did last year and hes essentially an after-thought

If TCU is 12-0 at the end of the year, should Kenny Hill be invited to the ceremony?

I have an inclination that tomorrow's game and accompanying performance will be quite decisive upon his standing within the Heisman race, in terms of him gaining great separation from the presumptive runners-up, remaining in his current placement or possibly even some diminution in his standing which therefore enables his counterparts to gain on him. Nothing a few TDs can't fix.
