Of course he will get in next year.

A different era. What Koufax did was amazing. He dominated pitching for those years like RUTH Dominated when he played.. It was the same distance from mound to the plate at every ballpark. So every pitcher was at the same levels..

ERA+ is a great metric, but it's not bounded so using it to compare the very best (or very worst) pitchers isn't extremely accurate.
"Blasphemy" and "plainly untrue"? Really? Get over yourself.

Unless he's tied to steroids within the next year, he'll get in with more than 90 percent of the vote.

I'm biased, but to me, it's a no brainer that he goes in as a Diamondback.

But one other measurement that should be taken into account is that from '98-'02(5 seasons) Pedro had 21 complete games, which is phenomenal in today's era.
Koufax had 27 complete games in both 1965 & '66. Could you imagine what Koufax's numbers during that span would be if he knew he only had to make it to the 6th inning.

Well, I used blasphemy to refer to myself. But plainly untrue DOES apply to what you said. Statistically, Pedro blows the doors off of Koufax. Koufax's numbers are massively inflated by both his era and playing in Dodger Stadium. It was probably the single best time and place to be a pitcher. And even without era adjustments, Pedro's ERA's are right there with Koufax. Include the time period, stadium, and even the DH rule... Pedro's numbers are simply better than Koufax's. In the middle of the greatest offensive era in history, Pedro was posting ERA's of 1.90 and 1.74.
Pedro has better stats than Koufax. Period.
And fine, ERA+ isn't a precision metric. I agree. But Pedro's aren't even in the same ballpark as Koufax's. They are so much better that unless the metric is just completely broken, which I disagree with, Pedro's numbers crush Koufax's.

quote:He should get in for doing the "Chicks dig the long ball" commercial without being the best left-handed pitcher of the live ball era.
It will probably be close...
