Sorry NC but you are completely wrong on this one. Wil asked a very direct question. Would LSU people have preferred to play Oklahoma State instead of Alabama? For some reason you either misread his intended question or you just decided to be contrary this morning. In either case you're wrong.

No worries Mr. Sam. I don't usually concern myself a great deal with people with reading compression limitations.

I was drunk and half sleeping, but I'm pretty sure ESPN showed a video of the the FSU players' reactions to the auburn winning whole they were travelling home on their bus, and it seemed pretty positive. They could have just been reacting to one of the most exciting finishes ever. My guess is it was a little of both.

You're missing the point.

He didn't ask if OSU would have preferred not to play LSU in the '08 BCS NTG. He didn't ask if ND would have preferred not to play Bama last year, or if Texas would have preferred not to play Bama for the MNC.

He asked a question unrelated to any feeling FSU could have this year re: Bama.
Bama is not FSU's rival. Bama is not in FSU's conference. Bama is not in the same division within their conference. Bama is not coached by a man who previously coached FSU, and has since tried to undercut their program. Bama is not a team FSU has already beaten this year in Tuscaloosa. Were those facts different, the comparison would make sense.

So the question had little basis of comparison other than fact of presumed answer. Drawing equation between our situation with Bama in 2011 vs FSU's in 2013 is frankly insulting.

i.e., Two questions:
Would you like to do yard work in the middle of an oppressively sweltering August afternoon in New Orleans?
Would you like to die in a fire?
I suspect the answer to the latter question is the same as to the former. The answer to both is probably similar to that for wilfont's. So what?

Again, if this were FSU of 1996 dealing with Florida as an opponent, the question would have better basis.
As it is, it doesn't.

Same mentality as 2011. It's not about playing a great team. It's about playing to win a NC.

Exactly- If beating a High School team could give you a BCS Championship, in the end, all you see is a Championship.

They could still wind up playing bama. If auburn and ohio state both lose bama will be #2

After seeing FSU this year I don't think it matters who they play. They are the best team in the country hands down and everyone is playing for runner up. They will manhandle OSU for sure, and I don't think Bama would get close either.

a lot of people think this before they play an SEC school in the NC game. They learn the hard way after getting their asses handed to them

Kind of a dumb statement. If Bama was the "best", they would be in the NC game.

I generally think this way as well but FSU has the defense to go with it.

C'mon NC.

He asked if LSU would have preferred to play Oklahoma State rather than Alabama and the answer is a resounding....YES. Then he referenced that answer to the OP's question about Florida State. It was a simple question with a rather obvious answer. One you've managed to turn into a debate.

He didn't. The inference there is all you. You seem believe he was comparing LSU having to play Alabama in 2011 with FSU having to play Alabama in 2013 and he did no such thing. He only said both teams would prefer to play someone else.

I'll chime in.

I think most LSU fans - myself included - would have preferred to have played OkSt.

1. We had already beaten Alabama, proving we were the better team

2. National championships usually carry the flair of pitting 2 teams against each other who do not usually meet on a regular basis. ND/Bama. Oregon/Auburn. Texas/Bama.

The 2011 championship was not only a re-do, but a neighborhood re-match. It wasn't like we were playing Oregon again who we beat in the first game of the season. We were playing a team we beat fair and square a month and a half ago.

We had to go the SECCG and beat Georgia while Bama stayed at home resting and drawing up game plans. And then having to beat them again?

We seemed down coming out because we had already beaten them, and wanted to prove that we were the best against ANYONE in ANY conference. Not just a regular SEC game again. Everyone knew this championship - no matter the winner - was going to be tainted and scrutinized the second the re-match was announced.

LSU vs the high scoring fast paced OkSt would have been a hell of a game.

I'm convinced you're just pulling my leg now. Nowhere did I compare the two seasons or the two teams. The only similarly I pointed out is that both the 2011 LSU team and the 2013 FSU would likely prefer to play someone else other than bama. I have no idea what you think I said but I considered the post to be a throwaway post that was so clear and benign in its intent that I never figured someone would take issue.

All this comparison crap between teams and seasons is your BS. Bobby Bowden and 1996 have no bearing on my post.

Yea, if playing a repeat opponent was the focus of my post which clearly it wasn't. Well, clear to most.

They would've beat Bama anyways.

That was Ohio State players.

Man a lot of fans are stuck in their catastrophe syndrome. Bama is not going to play in the NC. Yes, it's not impossible, but the likelihood of it happening isn't worth thinking about.

But some aren't happy unless they have something to worry about so I get it.
