Do you feel the NBA's carousel of moving stars hurts or helps its brand?

More than any other league, elite players in the NBA bounce from one team to the next. Every offseason it seems the biggest stars either move or are in discussion to move to another team (LeBron, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, etc.) Unlike pro football, which has a 53 man roster, NBA teams can (and do) reinvent themselves almost overnight. For example, you just wouldn't see Tom Brady or Drew Brees play for five different teams in a 10-15 year career.
Do you think this fluidity makes it more fun to watch because your team could land one of these stars or does the more mercenary approach make you connect less with the players?

The majority of teams are never in the running to land a star in free agency. You aren't gonna see top 5 guys going to Sacramento, NOLA, etc. So in that respect, I think the NBA is getting worse for the majority of fanbases.

I think it hurts.
Hard to get an emotional investment in a team when the team never has a constant
It’s why Jordan, Bird, Magic and Kobe became so iconic... they became synonymous with their teams and those fan bases gained an attachment for them

It actually seems to be somewhat of a positive as it keeps the League talked about year round with free agent speculation. Bird ,Magic , Kareem,etc...weren't going anywhere outside of the occasional trade. Off seasons were mostly dead.

I think it helps with interest. During the summer everybody is all jacked up that they're gonna land a great player and/or have an overall great off-season with free agents.
Then of course after guys sign, the media speeds ahead talking about what happened and what's going to play out during the season.
There isn't near the same level of craziness during the NFL off-season, for example, as there is for the NBA off-season.

Does it suck when a guy like KD decides to blow a 3-1 series lead and then join the team that beat him? Of course it does.
But not all of this movement is lame af.
• Kawhi to Toronto has been a +.
• Lebron needed to gtfo of Cle and it was a + for everyone(his haters and fans).
• Paul George and those Pacers teams were fun as hell. They all got what they could out of each other and then he left and created a really fun storyline in OKC.
• Lebron going back to Cle to spend the last part of his prime winning them a trophy and also failing so his haters could rejoice was a massive +.
• Kyrie to Boston and wherever he goes from here has been interesting.
• Philly adding pieces Butler and to a lesser extent Harris was a +.
• CP3 joining Harden has been fun and CC has been VERY good since.
And there are still opportunities for some stars to stay with their team and try to build that way.
I don’t see a problem with it.

Loaning players out like they do in soccer would be interesting for the NBA.

Hurts, it’s the reason I have not watched the NBA.

It helps. The NBA has owned in the offseason for a while now.

Well just judging off this board I don't see how one could say it helps. If people aren't watching anymore bc of this then it's a net negative. The fans who were watching before are still going to watch, so there's not much to gain in that respect.

Even though it’s not nearly as popular as the nfl, it dominates the headlines, Twitter, ESPN, sports talk more than any other league, and that’s all because of due to moving around

I wonder if we'll see a basketball "players' league" in the future. Basketball is the easiest sport to organize, so at some point, wouldn't they just part ways with the nerds in the suits and sell their talents out of the trunks of their cars?

Players constantly moving around is why the league has many fans of specific players, and not teams. That’s not good when you have a league with 30 teams.
The NBA is the easiest sport to predict.
You can see upsets in the NFC or AFC title game. We have almost seen the Jags and Chiefs knock off the Pats. It’s possible.
We’ve seen teams get hot in baseball postseason. The Royals, Mets, Indians. Fan bases have reason to get excited.
In the NBA, your ceiling is capped as a team unless you have the elite players. It’s why Toronto traded for Kawhi. Every now and then, a team like Milwaukee will strike gold with a talent like Giannis. It’s great to see that city enjoying this run. I just hope he stays there long term.
It’s better for the game when all of your markets have hope. Unfortunately, player movement doesn’t always do that for the NBA.
