"All players, coaches and male executives are forbidden to display any facial hair other than mustaches (except for religious reasons), and scalp hair may not be grown below the collar. Long sideburns and 'mutton chops' are not specifically banned."

Our high school had the same policy.
You could have a mustache...but no goatee, no beard, no long-hair, etc.
Why do mustaches get an exemption?
I guess because some old farts in the administration were still rocking the porn stache.

One of my favorite stories was a player, whom I can't remember his name refused to shave so Steinbrenner kicked him off the field. His response was "Are you telling me that Jesus Christ couldn't play for the yankees?" So Steinbrenner brought him to a nearby hotel and went to the pool. He said "if you can walk across it, you can keep your beard."
