re: Do other conferences suck off each other like the SEC?

Some history.
It started when LSU got ignored by the media in 03 for the BCS title as the media acclaimed USC as the "real" champ.
Then next Auburn got screwed and OU got blown out.
The icing was when Meyer had to lobby to get Florida in title game. You forget how the media crucified Florida for even being in the game. Then Florida blew them out. One Gator summed it up: he said four SEC teams would've done the same to OSU. Then sportswriters after the game refused to give Florida credit but said it wasn't fair that it's season ended later than OSU's.
This created a backlash among South as we got tired of it. Once again south is snubbed and looked down on. SEC chant is our way of taunting them.

Bowl games help mold preseason rankings and where teams start in the beginning matters. If OSU doesn't start #1 no way are they in the discussion for a play off berth based on their schedule and how they performed against it. They played 2 teams with a pulse and went 1-1.

You can't be as stupid as you post. The only reason anyone thinks Ohio State is decent is because of results on the field you moron. Add in the fact that they are the only school in the last 4 years (and running) to have a top 5 recruiting each and every year other than Alabama.
I'm not even sure why I responded to such an idiotic post.
You guys had close calls every single week, that's fine here and there, but you guys nearly lose to fricking everyone. Recruiting is great, therefore Tennessee should also be top 5 right?

Did this SEC pride exist pre-2006?

Close calls every week? They had two close calls all season and both were early while the quarterback issue was still sorting out. Every other game was at least a two touchdown win.
You're just a lousy troll at this point.

That won't always be the case.
It already wasn't last year. The Big Ten had a pretty low perception going into the playoff, because of what happened in December. The committee still made the right choice, and I didn't even have to stoop to pulling for the conference. Even after Michigan State fell on their faces, Ohio State won't need any help getting in, so I really don't care how our rivals do.

I think it did with a minority, but that OSU/UF title game really got it moving. I believe the Big 10 was 2-1 against the SEC that bowl season, but all anyone cared about was the result of the championship game. UF beating OSU somehow means the rest of the SEC was great as well

Lets just say they underperformed with the awesome talent they had coming back after how they looked the last three games last year... They were an overwhelming preseason Fav in every poll.....Again they have only themselves to blame by losing to a highly overated Mich st. team.. Now THEY struggled a lot more during the season than OSU did...........

Go Clemson.
Go Clemson.

Everyone's gunning for the defending national champions.

I can only imagine how hard it is to tell a 5* recruit you should come to our school " because of the success the Sunbelt has had over the years. We can offer you the experiences of playing in front of 12k people on any given weekend " Playing successful programs helps LSU. So yes, I want our opponents to succeed. Strength of opponents still matters.

Understood. By looking at the list just posted OSU struggled against teams they should have blown out.........

In the BcS, that did matter. Not so much any more. Ohio State could have started the season unranked and they'd be exactly where they were starting as unanimous #1. If they finished undefeated, they'd be in the playoff. They didn't, and they weren't.

So the top 1,2, and/or 3 recruiting classes OSU has been getting the past 4 years was a result of conference quality?

Come on now.

You people argue against your own points.

We're currently sitting at #3 nationally....damn our conference sucks.
Posted on 1/2/16 at 9:42 am to Forkbeard3777
And unfortunately going to be #1 once Gary commits.
But yes, their point is ridiculous.

Of course. If the SEC does well in bowl games, it's proof of conference strength. If they do poorly, bowls are meaningless. If they win the NC, it's SEC dominance. If they lose the NC, it's one good team, but the rest of that conference is terrible. SEC teams win because they're better. Everyone else wins because they're lucky or because the SEC team didn't care. Gotta love college football.

Michigan and OSU are National brands and would recruit well as independents. Teams like Iowa could benefit as they obviously need a talent infusion.
