Who cares? This was during a period of time when whoever made it out of the east was simply a sacrificial lamb for the west (minus Det in 04). EC champ likely wouldnt have even been top-5 in the west. Nets kept getting swept, cavs got swept, it was sad really. They were good, but they were never great. Stop with the revisionist history.

This story is tailor made for the media because you get at least 2 highly read stories:
1) OMG a pro athelete is gay! Well, technically a former pro athelete since he's not currently on any team, is over the hill, and never was good enough to be a regular starter ever.

2) OMG an over the hill guy that was never that good got cut because he was gay! Or did he get cut because of talent. Let's debate!

This ignores the obvious other stories:
a) debating if he really is the first pro athelete to come out of the closet when you have that dude from the 49'rs, Mike Piazza, A-Rod etc;
b) ignorant jock that says something like "aint no room for no **** on this team".

It's a never ending media cycle because people just can't get over the fact that someone might be gay, and people, especially white people, can't get their heads around the idea that we might have the most equal society in history and the playing field for most purposes is pretty level. For every gay guy that gets harassed there's also a fat guy, a guy that can't hold his liqour, a guy on the chess club, whatever.

How is he getting praised for admitting a sin and that he will continue?? Wonder if a player came out and says he cheats on his wife, snorts cocaine, steals, will anyone praise this?? Nothing against the guy I sin and I have lots of faults but wouldn't admit them in public and expect to get praised from it.

Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods... Womanizers, gamblers, gluttons, sinners (omg!!) while being the 3 most well known athletes to walk the planet. Ever.

You can think what you want. I guarantee you I watched more of them than you did.

When the Pistons won the championship, the Nets in the ECF semis gave them their toughest test in the playoffs. Pistons beat them in 7 tough games, while having to go to NJ to win game 6 to survive. Pistons had a MUCH tougher time with them than the Lakers in the Finals (series lasted 5 games).

They were a good team. Jason Kidd in his prime. Richard Jefferson in his prime. Kenyon Martin. A tough defense. Don't be some internet hard-arse and dispute that they weren't a good team, or dare I say it, a 'really good' team. They made it to back to back Finals. They beat SAS twice in 2003. They never won it all. Big f'ing deal.

I don't think tiger, babe Ruth, etc were being praised for the stuff they did morally wrong! Actually tiger was piled on! So why is it wrong to treat Collins the same?? Things that make u go hmmmm

Probably not.

So? Lakers were a mess by that point and it was clear the end was drawing near on their run.

I agreed with this.

I understand you are a Pistons fan, but have you really forgotten how god awful the east was back then?? Making it to the finals out of the east usually meant you were around the 5th best team overall in the league. Like I said, good, but nothing that impressive.

They were never close.

How do you not know who Collins is? Do you live in a box? Dude is a 12-year vet and was dominant at Stanford with his brother.
