Are women allowed to speak in church?

According to Paul, no.

That's just one place where Paul's OPINION is no longer valid today.

And I've derived my opinion from years of research and reading prior to the invention of wikipedia.

Tell me, how much of the Gospel have YOU translated?

ETA: it's people like you who give Christianity a bad name. You tell others to "get out of Christianity" because they are able to recognize that, like the Levitical code, there are old traditions that don't apply today. All you fundamentalists are the same; the only difference between you and a Muslim fundamentalist is the name you assign to God.

It says that women are to remain silent in church. If people are to take the Bible literally, rather than taking context, etc. into account, then women would, in fact, be silent in churches.

But we understand why Paul wrote what he wrote when he wrote it and thus we know why those particular words are not relevant in today's churches. The same holds true for the condemnations found in Leviticus, which is where you will find references to shellfish, clothes of mixed cloth, shaving, and homosexuality.
I'm not big on religion knowledge, but this is absolutely my biggest gripe with religion and those who use the Bible and throw that around.

It's the picking and choosing of which parts of the Bible they subscribe to, and which they don't and forget about.

That annoys me to no end. If you don't believe in something, so be it, but don't tell me it's because it says so in the bible unless you're going to believe in everything in the Bible.

Just like you said, it's about evolving.

Lol

Your OPINION does not prove Paul wrong

The Bible clearly says the man is the head of the household, but if his wife is the one speaking in church then he has relinquished the most important of his roles to her

Paul is advocating a 2 parent family, with the stronger vessel being the head. Today's society his gone to shite, and you accept the new chaos as the norm

That's also why you accept ghey as a normal lifestyle

People like you once said that interracial marriages would lead to the downfall of society.

Before that your kind opposed women's suffrage.

You were wrong then and you're wrong now.

Society is actually BETTER than what it was at any other time in history. We are also more tolerant than ever.

So you adhere to everything said in the bible?

Or do you pick and choose?

The Bible clearly states that we can't eat crawfish, cheeseburgers, or wear cotton/wool blend shirts. It also says that we should not shave or wear cologne.

You're either willfully ignorant or a damned liar. Either way no one should place any stock in your judgement of the Bible
quote:

Romans 14:1-23

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls.

quote:

1Co.10:25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.”

Read Leviticus.

It's in the Bible too, you know...

Also, are you implying that vegetarians are "weak"?

Or maybe, just maybe, when you put Paul's words IN CONTEXT, you come to another conclusion...

I'm not Jewish. Neither are you. Why do you care what their eating habits were?

I've already shown you in the NT that anything in the meat market is OK. Why make up BS like you have some kind of point?

Maybe you're not smart enough to understand Paul wrote to the gentiles because we had different customs? And if you're that ignorant, then your views on homosexuality have to be questioned too

So you do understand the concept of context. That's wonderful.

Now, apply it across everything you've read by Paul. For example, consider WHY and TO WHOM he made his condemnation of homosexuals. Also consider his other statements about human sexuality and marriage.

There is a lot more going on in the Pauline letters than what is on the surface, so merely taking the words at face value is, at best, intellectually unsound.

But one of the most troubling recent trends in Christianity is the transition to more of an emphasis on Paul's writings than on the messages in the Gospels.
