Carr will reportedly exercise his no-trade clause, ensuring his old team, the Las Vegas Raiders, will not get compensated for his departure. With more than $40 million in guarantees set to trigger later this week, the Raiders will release Carr, making him immediately free to negotiate with other teams.

quote:

Carr signed a three-year, $121 million extension with the Raiders last year that was set to pay him a base salary of $32.9 million in 2023 and more than $41 million in each of the next two years. That contract, though, contained an out for the Raiders: The guarantees don’t trigger until Wednesday, and they can cut Carr before that deadline and carry a relatively small $5.6 million dead cap figure.

quote:

The upside: The Saints won’t have to give up any draft capital for Carr, and they won’t have to take on the big contract in its current form. If New Orleans signs Carr, it can structure the contract in a way that makes more sense for right now.

The downside: New Orleans will now have a lot more competition for the top free agent quarterback, which is what they should have been trying to avoid when hosting Carr and trying to set up a trade.

This is smart by Carr, his new team won’t give up anything to get him and he will still get paid.

It's real smart until the Davises say frick you and just don't release him. You can play here, accept a trade or end your career

Then he’d take $40,000,000 and be a malcontent.

I think he would be fine with that. Though, they would be stupid to keep $32+ million on their books for a non playing player.

Then that's what they should do. I mean it's not my money. But he's trying to screw them out of a contract he signed.

He'd be $40 million dollars richer to just hang out at home. The Raiders put a player friendly and cap friendly out in his contract and he'll exercise it or get paid big. If the Raiders want something for him, they'll have to pay big and the market for him under his current contract, gets really small.

Best for both parties if he enacts his no-trade clause and they both make a clean break.

They're the ones that want to get rid of him so that'd be dumb as frick.

They benched him because they didn't want him anymore. Keep up with the news instead of just talking out of your arse.

The no trade clause is in the contract too.

Are you fricking retarded?

The Raiders are trying to screw him out of the money he is owed by that contract. So he's making sure they get zero from him leaving, as in compensation.

Raiders chose to screw him

And they were pretty vocal about it when benching him, almost to the point of trashing the guy. Some teammates had his back though.

He’s likely from the folk that believe current, past, or perspective employees, and not the multi billion dollar organizations are at fault for all the world’s woes. Even though BOTH parties entered into
this agreement.

What? You mean the contract both parties signed that included a no trade clause?

You really think they are going to pay him $33 million and take a cap hit of $40 million to sit on the sideline? They won’t. Raiders have no bargaining power here. They threw that away late last year.

He’s not. They are both incredibly mediocre. Teams (and fans) are gonna trip all over themselves for a QB that barely moves the needle
