the rules is the rules

i've seen plenty of similar TDs taken away the past 2 years

usually the WR is falling down when it happens

That's a big part of the problem. We've seen a lot of "well that's obviously a fricking TD" catches overturned because of the "rule" being designed to not allow for clear touchdowns to remain so.

its a stupid rule, but from what i saw, if you are aware of the rule, it was pretty obvious because the ref immediately called it incomplete and the REF Rep they talked to while reviewing confirmed that.

if you watch the replay.. the ref staring straight at the play signals TD..

That was a TD. 2 feet, possession of the ball (which should signify the end of the play) and his arse hits the ground before he extends the ball out.

i wonder what the rule says about being out of bounds.. it looks like his left hand is out of bounds, ending the play, before his right hand hits the ground and loses the ball..

I had absolutely No interest in this game and thus I was not partial to any of these 2 teams - Lions or Bears. That was 1 of the WORSE officiating calls ever. Johnson, catches the pass in the end zone to win the game, 2 feet hit the ground, makes a move, hits the ground first and then touches the ground with the ball. TOUCHDOWN. But, wait, the NFL decides to replay and rule on the play and then rules it is about this "process" like it is some special secret code. The NFL took this game away from the LIons.

they called it incomplete on the field.

it may be the worse rule ever, but the refs interpreted the rule correctly.

You're right that it was ruled incomplete on the field, but I saw it as a touchdown and you are also right that the right call was made and you are also right - that this is the WORSE rule ever. This seems like a NFL rule that could go either way. If the official calls it a touchdown, there won't be many to question it. And I know that many times that this is ruled a touchdown, the Lance Moore touchdown comes to mind. This seems like a rule to protect the interest of the NFL officials and the NFL.

idk anything about this play but it sounds like crap.. but whats not fair is u can't compare it to lance moore.. bc that's breaking the plane.. the ball jus has to break the plane for a td.. any form of fashion.. but a receiving td in the endzone itself has it's different rules.. it's lame i know.

The refs called the play correctly. However, that rule is simply terrible. By alllogic, the play is dead once he gets the second foot in. Touchdown.

But no one has ever accused the NFL rules of being logical.
