Those tweets that show them joking about catfishing him easily could've been them knowing about manti making it up & joking about it.

Didn't his dad ask for people to boycott a local paper because the newspaper had a picture of Manti getting run on with "Bowled Over" as the headline?
That seemed a little crazy that he would get that upset over a newspaper article that wasn't specifically calling out his son. It's a newspaper...they make catchy headlines with pictures...

I think they assumed catfishing because they knew about the Lennay persona back in 2008, and just assumed he was duping Te'o. No evidence they know Te'o, but they do know the other guy.
