All the while they’re shopping their two best hitters on the trade market AND still paying Chris Davis $23M this year.

Not buying it.

The best contract for Boras would be a 1 year + 1yr player option. That way if/when Carlos gets hurt this year, he’ll have a fat paycheck next season to try to rebuild any market he may have lost.

$42M each year.

If healthy all this year, he can get Carlos to opt out and get the long term deal.

I still think ultimately, Boras gets Carlos over $420M over the next 11 or 12 years.

First Spring Training game today

Looks like the Cardinals are broadcasting it so we will be able to watch JV throw. Pedro Leon and Korey Lee the only real notable position players going

Correa w the Astros at this point is inevitable, mostly b/c I think he wants to be on a winning team, and will still be able to cash in

Probably won’t hear anything until Monday

Boras won’t want any distractions like March Madness competing with him and his client

Cluck says they view Javier as a starter this year. He's working with starters in spring.

So either someone (Garcia, Urquidy, Stink) is an odd man out and moved to the pen or Javier is stashed at AAA and stretched out as a starter.

Hard to see Garcia not in the rotation after his breakout year so I'd think he's a rotation lock. And I really like Urquidy in the rotation even though he doesn't have high end stuff.

So they will break camp with:

JV
Frambaw
Luis
Urquidy
Odo
Javier

All stretched out as starters? With optimistically Lance back by summer I guess? Good problem to have. The only guy in the rotations stuff that I think could play up in the bullpen would be Luis but there is no way they take him out of the rotation. So me think Odo is going to be long man out of camp

I think the new option rules complicate it a little more. Between that and only carrying 13, I think it's going to be harder to use a guy like they used Javier last year. Less flexibility. Seems like you'd want all 8 bullpen arms in a more traditional role where they're never down more than a day or two. I don't see he or Odorizzi fitting into that mold.

If Lance is actually coming back at some point, maybe they can find a desperate team to give up a half decent prospect for Odo.

Of that group, if someone has to be in the bullpen I'd actually prefer Javier. Think his stuff makes for the best reliever.

I do like Javier as a starter. We've seen flashes of what he can do. But he's also a bit of a wild card with his control. I like Urquidy as a results now kind of guy. Don't think he'll wow you but he'll be steady and generally put you in line to win games.

I'd work for half to live in Houston over Baltimore, maybe it's better when you're rich though

Maryland's personal tax rates begin at 2% on the first $1000 of taxable income and increase up to a maximum of 5.75% on incomes exceeding $250,000 (or $300,000 for taxpayers filing jointly, heads of household, or qualifying widow(ers).

I wouldn't want to give up extra income... plus taxed on extra games in NY and MA. Although now it's extra games in CA so that part's probably a wash.
