OK. You're the MLB business expert. Tell me, how much of your money, would you piss away just so you can tell your fans, "look, we knew we would be shitty, but I burned XXXX dollars, just to show you I care about you and get us from 51 wins to 70 wins."

How much do you piss away, and who do you piss it away for?

But is it something you tell a rookie, "BTW, you have to do this now, so get 'er done." before his first MLB game? Uh, I don't think so.

yea that's so difficult to teach

out of the 8 positions on the field, its 2nd easiest to play.

So then, it is your expert 178K post opinion that it IS a good idea to throw a rookie into the MLB level with no adjustment period for the position he's going to play? We're not talking a couple of seasons here. We're talking a couple of weeks.

Incidentally, what is the easiest position to play of the 8 positions? (I thought there were 9, btw).

But how can I watch the Astros tonight?
MLB extra innings blacks them out as well as MLB.tv.
Idk what to do.

Pretty much. A CF knows the angles off the bat already. That is the biggest thing. As a CF you already have experienced the tough reads off the bat. Meaning you get the slice from both the LH and RH hitters towards the gaps. You get the line drives & other balls hit straight at you from the center of the diamond, which can be extremely tough. Playing on a corner, you have those natural angles which help you read the ball better off the bat.

Being able to backup first base is the last thing they are worried about.

8 position players outside of the pitcher. LF is the easiest, RF is second.

A lot of people will say 1B, but it is easier to be a good corner OF than it is to be a good 1B.

Disagree with you. RF is tough to master. The angles are different. You're watching the ball from a different angle in RF. The tails off balls in RF are more difficult in RF than they are CF.

I get what you're saying and, yes, he can play RF, but the point is that C was saying he shouldn't even need experience to play RF. I don't care who you are, you need experience and practice for ANY position in the OF. Angles, cuts, tails, slices, are all different from each side. It's not just about backing up 1B.

C insinuated that there was no use for him to play RF in the minors to play at the MLB and that's just ridiculous.

Since he is s hyped and basically the Astros version of Jesus, what happens if he has 2-3 games going 0-4 with 2-3 strikeouts a game? Me personally I won't care and I know what he can do but I know some idiots on here and in Houston would be pissing and moaning.

Right. C had an issue with that. He says that Luhnow lied and said that Springer needed experience/time in RF insinuating that seasoning isn't needed.

No one is saying the transition can't happen or how easy/hard it may be....

Prom - you are 100% correct. Not to mention, LF Never needs to make that LF to First Base throw. RF has to have the arm to make the 3B throw (and when NOT to try to make the throw). I wasn't even going to go into that, because it's clear that some of these posters have never played baseball at a high level. A line drive hit by a left-handed batter from an inside curve ball is one of the most difficult to judge in the outfield. And almost all of those hits end up in RF.

In little league, RF is the position you put your weakest player. At a higher level, RF needs to be a high-caliber athlete.

I'm not going to get into "what's the most difficult position to play" debate. That's just asinine. But to expect a rookie to jump right into the MLB level with zero game time in the position you want him to field, that's just dumb. You'd be setting your guy up to fail early. You want him to make those transitional mistakes at the minor league level.
